My first sig!

This the first sig made ( I just finished it minutes ago, it took me about 20 minutes)
I know you can see the separation but I don't know how to make a gradation beetween the image and the background.
Maybe someone could tell me how to do it, it would be appreciated (btw i used macromedia fireworks 8)

I especially wanna know what ppl think of my first sig.

Don't have any experience in Fireworks, but in Photoshop and Gimp I would use something called a "Layer Mask."

A layer mask is a "kinda layer" attached to a real layer; it's the size of the image, colored all white. Anything painted white on the layer mask will show on the attached layer; anything painted black will be "masked out on the attached layer.

EDIT: A bit of google does a body good. In Fireworks it's known as a "Mask Group." What you do is make an extra layer, and make a BLACK->WHITE gradient.. with WHITE where you want the layer to start fading, and black where you want the fading to end (the edge of the image). Then select your black-white mask layer AND the image layer. Choose Modify -> Mask Group to "mask" the picture layer.
