so i came across this. Seems really cool. but kinda freaks me out.

Whatever the case, the most powerful atom-smasher ever built comes online Wednesday, eagerly anticipated by scientists worldwide who have awaited this moment for two decades.

The multibillion-dollar Large Hadron Collider will explore the tiniest particles and come ever closer to re-enacting the big bang, the theory that a colossal explosion created the universe.

The machine at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, promises scientists a closer look at the makeup of matter, filling in gaps in knowledge or possibly reshaping theories.

It seems like some people are getting death threats too:

The Large Hadron Collider is just a few days from being switched on, but the scientists in charge of the 17-mile long super collider are already getting impassioned pleas to stop their work, some of the scientists have even received death threats.

yeah i made a thread, and so has another person besides this one. they are probably all gonna get closed now cuz its spreading like wildfire.
 
This is a over discussed topic. But still a good one. But regardless, I really doubt anything of the research will have unforseen consequences(;)), most likely we'll just make a few breakthroughs. In understanding dark matter, the big bang, ect.
