Any of you hear about this ? I am absolutely appalled at the whole situation. !argh

One boy's family relocated to Edmonton to avoid the backlash. Before he left, someone placed a microwave inside his locker with a toy cat in it.
According to court ordered psychological assessments, video games were not found to have directly encouraged the boys' actions. But barring their access to such games was nonetheless a recommendation put forward in the assessments.
What about violent shows/television etc. ?

I think the biggest n00b could tell RL from games..... As a quote from Pure Pwnage "Oh come on kyle, even the biggest n00b could tell RL from a video game, THis is like Graphix DX like 50000"

the media sees video games as the extent of every violent occurrence. the fact is, most game retailers are more strict than movie retailers who would let 13 year olds into an R rated movie. video games are not the stem of violence, stupidity just can't be fixed.

I would smack that stupid judge, and anyone else who hears "Two boys commited a violent act" and everyone stops and says "OMG VIDEO GAMES! BURN THEM!". Freakin' Idiots.

i hate how video games are always targeted when something like this happens. and the kids are so stupid for doing that...they should get some time atleast

Everyone always looks for a "reason" for violence. Instead of the obvious reasons of. 1) lack of parenting/supervision, and very importantly 2) human beings natural pension for violence. We didn't get to the top of the food chain by being nice.

we are actually in one of the LEAST violent ages, all things considered. We have a greater world population, and a much lower K2D ratio than times such as the Medieval times. Stone Ages. even early 1800s. back then if some kid had killed a cat, the community woulda said "OMG WTFC? We got more important crap to worry about... like not dying of starvation, or Cholera"

i was allowed to watch violent movies, and play violent games as far back as i can remember, and i never did anything violent against anyone unnecessarily. but i did have a good mom, who taught me right and wrong, and the consequences of doing wrong.

Don't you just hate it when people try to blame a great source of fun for the stupid things a few kids do?

I love how officials turn to video games when they cant find a motive for a sick crime such as this one. I think the animal lover comes out in me when I say these two boys should get a vicious beating or two. If you cant find the motive, just focus on the punishment.

Yeah, seriously. Video games are not is what is causing this. Sometimes, the kids are just crazy.

:mad:Ridiculous stupid idiots. Should be put in jail for about 5 years. This is what gives us a bad name because they associate it always with video games.

Yeah ur totally right Section, we see much more violence on regular tv and movies, much more real than video games. They should be put away a long time for what they did to that poor cat:(....

I am way against blaming violence in people caused by the entertainment industry. However, I do see the argument between how violent video games are versus a movie or tv show. In video games you are usually doing (by either mouse/keyboard, controller or whatever) the killing or damage, where as in shows and movies you are merely spectating the violence occur. I still don't think violence in people has anything to do with seeing it in video games, movies or anything like that.

I like that. very insightful. just don't THEM find this... they will start saying it.

what if they did something else without video games? I bet they would have to go to some sort of psychological clinic for some help... Maybe the case could then be appealed?

They should also have thought about movies, tv shows and surroundings

I fail to see how video games encouraged this, but I agree with HL2master;I want to see them in jail after this. It wouldn't supprise me if they faked their appology too. I feel really sorry for the cats owners.

Did you guys even read the article:

"According to court ordered psychological assessments, video games were NOT found to have directly encouraged the boys' actions. But barring their access to such games was nonetheless a recommendation put forward in the assessments."

It is just punishment for what they did without having to face any jail time, it's like forbidding a kid from eating candy when he misbehaves, just because kids like candy.

Instead of jail time they get:

- No video games
- One year probation
- 100 hours community service.
- Therapy
- Pay $250 restitution money each
- Curfew

MY VERDICT:

This specific ruling looks ambiguous to me because the judge could have said no movies for a month or no TV for a month, but since he knows kids like video games he hurts them where it hurts the most....video games.

Well in my opinion I feel the kids should be stuffed into a microwave and nuked for doing something so stupid, but that is just me...
