This actually happened to a friend of mine. What he did is he always used the "remember my password". Well his internet provider went tits up and he moved his internet provider. Needless to say this made a new e-mail he had to use. Everything was ok until he had to format windows one day. When he installed steam, he could not remember the password nor could he check the old e-mail for the password.
