Question About Contacting Admin

I am still a bit of a noob at TF2. I was in game a day or so ago and a player was using the "n" word in voice chat frequently. I think the guys username was Anonymousblackguy or something to that effect. There was an eGO on the other team. How can I go about contacting an admin if they are in game and not on my team without sending out a chat message to everyone?

Also, how do I get steam id's on people? Please forgive me if I missed this information in another thread. I am very interested in keeping the server free of racist and belittling remarks and would be happy to let admins know when I run across players behaving in such a way.

Preferred way of contacting admins on other teams: Press the key for team chat, which is 'u' followed by the @ symbol, then the message you want sent out. You wont be able to see it, but we will.

eg. Press u to open team chat and in the small box:

|@_message goes here__|

For SteamIDs; press ` to bring down the console, then type in 'status' without the quotes. It'll list the players username, followed by their ID.

One quick addition - you will need to turn on the console in order to access it, as it is off my default when you install the game. Go to settings, then keyboard settings (i think), then advanced, and make sure the box for "enable console" is checked.

just a quick follow up question...


when i use the @ symbol do i then just type the message or do i need to use the @ symbol in conjuction with a players name?

ex.

I want to send adminjoe a private message in game to alert him/her that a player is using profanity in voice chat.

i hit "u" then type in the @ symbol followed by adminjoe?

so it would look like this....

u
@adminjoe
player x is cursing in voicechat on blue team


or does the @ symbol automatically send the message to any admin logged into that particular server?

the U @ message will be sent to all admins on the server, so we'll be able to help.

all you have to do is bring up the team chat.. put a "@" a space, then start typing ur message. all the admins will be able to see it, but no one else will, not even you. what i did my first time was "@ test" to make sure i did it right, and an admin will send you a PM saying that they can see your message. it's quite useful when u are in that same situation that you were in...no admin on your team, but on the other team...any other questions let me know!

I will add steam as well. Shift + Tab brings up the steam friends. Have some of us on your friends list, if no admin is in game call us quickly. You can chat with us without having to tab out or quit the game.

Darn, all these people got here before me to answer you, if you want i can pm you my steam account or if you tell it to me we can add each other, im on most of the time and will happily change servers/join to sort out a situation.
