Team Killing

Please Note: This is NOT a complaint, just curious to how I managed to pull this off.

I was playing 2FORT *IRS* as a soldier. I was on the enemy battlements happily shooting rockets. I glanced down because HLXstats registered a kill, but I had not shot anyone. (or anyone that I could see).

The message read.

Harry Hazard received -50 points for Team Killing.

Um....lol.

Please hear me. I really could care less about the points. I just want to know how I managed to kill a team member on a server that has friendly fire turned off.

lol that's happened to me before.

sometimes its because you switched teams. someone on your team shot you and when you suicided to switch teams it says that they "finished you off", but now that you're on their team, it counts as a team kill.. if that makes any sense lol

i was playing engineer on the blackmesa server and i ran down the hall my sentry gun was pointing at and it killed me. very odd thing but might have been a glitch from ike.

Sentries can kill their engi's cheeze. I have also seen this happen though. My sentry once killed a pyro on my team because it was shooting don a hall and he got into the way of the rockets and it pinned him to the wall and killed him.

That makes lots of sense. (no sarcasm intended). Its very likely thats what happened. I tend to force snipers to either quit or join my team. (Rocket jump ftw).

yeah

i play warpath a lot and many times when my sg shoots at enemies i stand behind the sg and still get killed by the sg, also if i strafe in front of the sg it kills me if it shoots at an enemy :-(

I have been killed by my own teammate's sentry gun before on warpath....very weird...

Thats basically how it happened to me, i shot a scout with a rocket, who was also on fire, got auto-switched to that team and the scout died while i was on the team. got a team kill. but that was before they added the "finished off" thing where you get credit for suicides...

SG's can not kill your own team. 100% tested and sure of it.

I had it happen when I was a pyro once. I lit someone on fire, died, was auto switched, and then the person I lit on fire died. I was laughing too hard to care about the -50 points!

false. I have killed someone on my own team with an SG... although it probably had something to do with the team swap thing. It wasn't "Finished off", however, It was straight up "Dreadmaker (sentrygun icon) someguy".

Sentries will kill its own engineer, which is why you shouldn't place a dispenser directly behind you when standing behind a sentry.

A spy could easily run around behind you, and then the sentry will attempt to shoot the spy, instead shooting you and wasting all its ammo on the dispenser.

I've been TK'ed by a sg without switching teams at all that time I played.

Obviously not because my sentry has killed a pyro on my team on 2fort. He was not team switched.

I was healing an enemy spy the other day... who then whacked one of my team mates. I can only assume I got nailed for -50 as we got credit for the kill.

wow that never happened to me before but maybe steam doesn't like any one killing teammates
