ok so i really need some help! a clan member got hacked and sent me a youtube link. i watched the video. no download started or anything. can i get hacked by just watching a youtube video? please let me know fast. and what should i do if i have been hacked. nothing has changed yet.!bang
the guy who got hacked actually had a download start. which i didnt so hopefully im all good. and buy the way his name is dj hoff [DAM]. be carefull of any dam member who sends you a message with a link in it. i suspect alot of dam members might get hacked

You can't get hacked from a YouTube link because the flash component (the only part that could be used maliciously) is controlled by Google. Update that antivirus though!

You can not get hacked by a youtube video, HOWEVER, check the link before you click. Clicking a link to an unknown CAN get you a driveby install/malicious site.

A reasonable scenario is as follows:

Cloaked link ( garbled text , things like http://1233132313/youtube.com..../ etc - fake linking ) -> click -> run script -> fast reload to youtube.com

It can give you the idea that it's legit, but, it sent you through the wringer real quick BEFORE you actually get to what it wanted you to think you were headed to. ( thus, letting your guard down afterwards. )

But, from youtube itself - it's very unlikely that you'll ever catch anything from there.

Seriously - beware URLs like this: http://1233132313/youtube.com - those numbers - IP addresses changed from base255 IP format to decimal. There's other means of garbling URLs as well - good idea to be aware of the proper format for URLs and how to spot fakes quick. If it's not simple: "www.youtube.com" - it's not good to click it (or take a real good look at it before you do. )

If you're ever really creeped out for any reason, best thing to do is go to a known clean computer and change your important passwords ASAP. Never do it from a compromised computer - worthless.

If his computer is compromised it won't do anything - unless he does it from a clean computer.

Besides,

Hax0rs - they generally want stuff. Our game accounts - is usually not the "stuff" they're looking for.

Your Amazon and Newegg accounts with saved credit card numbers and previous GOOD orders are more like it.

[ Think about it for a second. What good is stealing 1 steam account when you could buy (steal) 10 copies of orange box off amazon/newegg? It's called productivity. ]

changing the passsword while im be watched didnt seem like good idea. OH and im cool. clicked a hackers link and nothing happened. Yay me everythings cool. some how i i was on the razors edge and didnt get cut. good lesson though. feel bad for hoff, get to know ur friends. i chat with hoff quit a bit, thats why i clicked a link to see his girl naked. dont know why i wasnt hacked. maybe its vista.
