does anyone know if you can update your old version of the witcher to the new versino released today?. i hear thats what you were supposed to originally be able to do, but now they are releasing it as a whole different game :\

watch the zero punctuation review gryphon, worth a few laughs...

While Yahtzee's review is funny, in this case I wouldn't hinge buying the game on his views. I personally found the game to be extremely fun, and look forward to replaying it when the enhanced version is released later this month.
To the OP, CD Projekt said that if you own the original Witcher you will be able to upgrade to the enhanced for free off their website once it's released.

Is this game any good? I've been thinking of picking up the new version off of Steam.

It is a pretty good game. If you enjoy single player RPG, I would recommend it. I think there is even a demo for you to try.

I assume the original post was talking about patch 1.3. The enhanced edition is out in stores, people who have the old version get update for free with a downloadable patch. Use a FTP downloader to get these, the ftp hosts is very very slow when getting the 1.4 patch(aka the enhanced edition). All new info can be found at the games main website. Google search "The Witcher" can you will find it. The game has major fixes and reworks for all languages. I play the US version and its really really smooth now. Sadly the soundtrack does not have the song I wanted. I wanted the intro from the main menu thru the 1st loading of the game.

I got a buddy I work with that keeps trying to get me to get this he says its awesome, but I dont like spending money.... especially since Ive bought games that turned out to be a flop.

There is only a few hang ups I have about it, 1 is the constant running back and forth between areas, but Ive been getting my quest done very sloppy like... the combat is most fun and rewarding IMO, the story line is interesting, and being able to react to situations in diffrent ways is fun, so is the whole, you make a dession it changes some aspects of the game, another problem I have with it, which may be wrong I might not be doing it right or something, I find anything that isnt a sword useless, maybe im missing something I dont know, but im also only in chapter 2 havnt finished it... have way to many games I need to finish actuly... but anyways I do recommend it to someone who really likes RPG's if you are not someone who likes RPG's or action RPG's I would not waste your money on it.

For those of you who are inbetween about RPG's, some you like, some you don't, I do find the story and gameplay to be quite enjoyable but I'd best suggest looking up some more, proffesonal reveiws of the game before decieding to get it or not...

The Witcher was nominated for Best RPG game of the year on G4 or gamespot can't remember which one. A nomination means its a really good game. It did not win, if I remember correctly Mass Effect won.

Ok for the alternate weapons, they each have either own special straits. You won't really be using them untill way later in the game. Just sell them to merchants for money for now.

Theres alot of walkthroughs on quests posted on walkthrough sites if you need help with specific quests. My recommendation is do all the side quests as far as you can without progressing the main quest. Then progress the main a bit and go back to the side quests, till you have none left then finish the main.
