Does anyone agree with me?

I feel that the computer world IS dying..Consoles are taking over. Less and less good games are being made for the PC and all transferring over to the consoles.

are you kidding? almost 100% of games are playable on the computer. Just get emulators :D.

he is right, most good games aren't created on the pc, and u cant play without emulator, and emulators doesnt always work 100% well, i noticed that to, i hate it :(, i think its because that the Consoles are cheaper then the gaming pc's

::chuckle:: good try FatalSinz -

people have been saying "the computer is dying" for 10 years now...when in all reality their numbers look better than ever. yes, games are being made for consoles, but that will never actually "kill" computer gaming. and there's nothing wrong with enjoying both, either. just means you have the capacity to be a well-rounded person...like someone who likes PCs AND MACs ;-)

anyway - i'd suggest killing this thread before it turns into a flame war.

It is not possible to play First person shooters on a console. Unless they have a mouse and keyboard option on the console or have it on the controller with really bad aiming. Some games like TF2 and CoD4 etc are more popular on the computer than their console counterparts. Other games like Strategy games eg, Starcraft cannot be played on a console. PC Gaming is very much alive.

Consoles are just an alternate way to game. Who's to say you cant have a game thats good on both PC and console?
I'd image Left 4 Dead would be a blast to play regardless of platform. :)

What? Computer gaming is GAINING. I'm not a huge WoW fan, but is there a console game that has millions of people playing online together?Computers are as cheap if not cheaper than consoles these days! My PS3 is a better blu-ray system than a gaming system. Just like my 360 was a better DVD player than it was a gaming console. I agree that lots of games just feel better with a controller but you can get almost any controller for your computer now!

FatalSinz I do not agree with you on that on buddy. Why consoles are big it is only because of the marketing behind it. That evil thing corporations do to make you buy things you really do not need. Granted there are games that come out on consoles that do not come out on PC so I play them but I believe PC gaming is still strong. Also people will argue that console gaming is cheaper where as it is not. it is far more expensive than PC gaming in the long run. Lets go with some round numbers here.

PC Gaming:
Mid-high gaming computer 700-2000. It is anywhere in that price range because you decide how you want it made and how powerful it is. You decide how much to spend on the system it self.

Monitor 200-500:Depending how big and features you want on it.

Here is the most important part of it. GAMES!!! 20-80 bucks depending on CE(collectors or limited edition). Now I say this is the most important part because I spend 50 bucks on Battlefield 2 when it first game out. 49.99 with tax is 54.11. 6 to 12 months down the road people will mod and make a new game out of it for you to play. Guess for how much???

ITS FREE!!!!! WOW FREE!!!! I DO NOT PAY A DIME!!!!

Consles:
I am basing this on current gen/next gen. Not older generation as it is not supported anymore and can not be put on a MSRP price point. Ebay and resales do not count on my research.

You have 3 systems to pick from
PS3:400-500 depending on the type you get.
XB360:200-350 depending on the type you get.
Wii: 250.

The bad part about it is that some good games not just game but GOOD games come out only on one or two systems. Not always multiplatform, also if you want to play with a friend who has it for PS3 and you have it for XB360 you lose out.

Now I am going to put the next part as it being on a TV. Not your comptuer monitor that has HDMI or HD inputs for it. Every commercial, event, or display for these systems use TVs not computer monitors.

TV- 1200-2500 depending on size and features. Now it is your choice as to which one you want to get but understand most people who dedicate their gaming expierence to console gaming goes with a TV.

Peripherals- Yes there is different keyboards, mice, even game pads for PC but we all know that PC gamers use mouse and keyboard. on a console system you do get a control but as you know consoles are built to have mulitplayer either online or offline. So if you want to play with friends and family who do not have your same system you need to get extra controls. Those can range anywhere from 30-50 bucks.

Online- Sony does have a friend online service but it seems not as popular as xbox live because the saying goes you get what you pay for. Since its free you get horrible service at times and it is not as populated as xbox live servers. Now with xbox live the drawback is you have to pay for it. 50 a year,20 three months,8 for a month.

Here comes the important part again.GAMES:
Games now a days have gone up 10 dollars. It might not seem like alot but it is when you consider how many games you buy. You end up buying more games for consoles than PC. So they start anywhere from 20-80 depending on CE status(depending on Collectors or Limited Edition). Yes there is DLC you can get but for the price of 20 bucks to get 3-4 maps, weapons,or characters it seems like a waste of money to only give xtra little life to a game you will only leave for another one coming out later in the month.

Yes you can trade in your console games to get new ones but you end up still paying money for a new game. Sure you can not trade in PC games but why do you want to? Ever been asked to play an old game and you do not own it anymore because you traded it in. Well you do not have to worry about that with PC games because if it goes towards more like Online Distrobution like Steam. You will not have to worry about losing the disc or getting scratches you just download it again and bam its there.

Also with PC gaming you have more liberty to the internet as you can browse the web, listen to music, talk on VIOP programs, chat on IM programs all at the same time because the direction PC design is going into multi-core systems. Yea the PS3 has the Cell chip and XB360 has a 3 core set up and yes it is designed for the gaming and not all those extra features. But if they do ever add them to future consles I can tell you that they will jack up the price just cause they can.

As a conclusion you can see that on PC gaming you would spend 2500-3000 on your total setup but hey its going to last you for as long as you want it to. 3-5 years even. If you built it right you can just add a couple of new items to get a whole new system out of it rather than building a whole new pc. ITS YOUR CHOICE.As with consoles you are around 3000-5000 because of all the new games to have to keep buying to enjoy your expierence with the system. Yes it is your choice what game you want to buy and which one not to buy but riddle me this. If they made GoW2 or Resistance 2 on Microsofts or Sonys new system and you want to get the game so bad you are forced to buy a new consle!. You will end up spending money either route you go with but it seems you spend more money in a shorter amount of time with consoles than you would with gaming on PC.

I also want to add that I jump from one to another, it is the kind of gamer I am. I just recently jumped back into PC gaming but before that I was really into my XB360 and before that I was into my PC and before that I was into my Xbox and finally back to PC,etc and etc. I based this reply on how PC gaming is not dying because alot of writers base it on the fact that people do not want to spend that much money on PC gaming when in reality it is the same with Console gaming as well. Both types are coexsitent because if it wasn't for the development of PC tech and DirectX there would have been no consoles and without consoles to spawn new IP(new games) PC would not have an idea what direction to take with its games.

WOW! How long did it take to type that out ?!?

You've got an amazing good point there... But I don't think computer world is dying....

If computer gaming is dying, then why companies like AMD, Nvidia, etc. are spending a lot of money doing R&D in so many PC components. That is the same for software developers.

No, computer gaming will be here to see the next-next gen of consoles.

They're crazy. They i think ATi uses their gfx card on the 360..Eh. Not sure.

But, the reason i say its dying is because after i came back from doing some military work for a long while, i had purchased a REALLY good computer. With the money i made i was planning on buying a crapload of games for the PC as well as playing games that i already owned that my old computer couldn't handle. I came back, went to EB Games and Gamestop only to find out that there are hardly any new or good computer games out. When i went to find stuff for the 360, i saw alot of new and good games. So many, that i bought $500 worth of games. Although theres a ton of money left over, i cant bother to spend more money on the 360. Whereas with the PC i've only bought 80$ worth of games, and its only 2 games. Theres not much out there anymore. I guess it depends on taste although im very open minded.

I find COD4 better on the 360 than the PC. That way, instead of people spending 2930182309 playing COD4 and whoopin' butt, on the 360 everyone is pretty equal but which makes it more fair and fun. I can't play COD1 or 2 anymore on the PC because people are just WAY too good. Whereas on the 360, i can easily play COD4 and its fair. I don't know if anyone understands what im coming from.

Computer Gaming is not dying, all of the games made for a console, you can get for the computer, PCs and Consoles both have Pros and Cons, but I'm not going to list them. All in all, neither Computer, or Console gaming is dying.

How many times have I heard this? Atleast once every 3 or 4 years.... I've lost track.

It goes like this:
PC Gaming is great
A new console comes out that surpasses current pc tech
PC holds tough as console games catch up to their tech
PC starts to "die" when console games utilize full tech capability
PC tech catches back up to console
PC passes console
Rinse and repeat

yea it seems like that but computer is still by far the best i would take a mouse and keyboard over a controller any day of the week

I wish people would stop saying PC Gaming is dying, because all that does is make retailers act like that is the truth. I was seriously annoyed recently when my local Best Buy decided to reorganize the store, and PC games got shoved back in a corner. They don't even have them facing out anymore so you can see the cover, but instead have the side showing to save room.

PC games in general might not sell as well as some of the consoles, but it's not like they aren't bringing in a profit. I just wish the whole Games for Windows initiative would've helped reinvigorate the PC game genre some rather than turning into some elaborate ploy to sell Vista.

i just play both.
I enjoy consoles and pc equally. 360 is for my IRL friends. Only a few have gaming pcs, so we play on 360. PC is for awesome communities like eGO. And in PC, you get the power on the banhammer.

But, the reason i say its dying is because I went to EB Games and Gamestop.

There's the reason. Try buying from Steam or Stardock instead of a company paid to put games on shelves.

Since you've left, pc gaming has gone almost completely online, beginning with World of Warcraft.

You don't go to a store and buy pc games anymore. You download them thru a digital distributer.
