Computer world is dying!

There's the reason. Try buying from Steam or Stardock instead of a company paid to put games on shelves.

Since you've left, pc gaming has gone almost completely online, beginning with World of Warcraft.

You don't go to a store and buy pc games anymore. You download them thru a digital distributer.

You know, there's part of me that wonders if retailers aren't some of the big ones pushing the whole idea that PC gaming is dying. Things like Steam and Direct2Drive are doing so well, that it wouldn't shock me in the least if retailers are trying to kill off PC gaming since they no longer get such a large chunk of the profits anymore.

Thats a stupid move because there are people out there like me, without credit cards that have to use their mommy's and daddy's. I have a wad of money, but its not a steady flow because i take on certain jobs at certain times.. Plus i'd be dangerous with a credit card. So, i use debit or cash at the store instead.

Console gaming and PC gaming fit niches and fit them well. I gravitate between both and see no need for one to "beat" the other out. They can and do offer two different experiences.

If you have a checking account you can have a PayPal account which both Blizzard and STEAM accept.

I do not have a checking account. If i did, i would have an ego sweater by now =D

I dont think it is "dying" but i think more people are playing consoles, like younger kids and that age. With the wii, and the kid games for the 360 i feel that the consoles will take over the younger gamers, but the PC will always have the hard core and older gamers.

Haha. Well i just moean that its "dying" in a sense that...everyones all playing the same game. Theres not much variation in games for the PC anymore, in terms of new games.

That is true, but almost all of the best new fps are on the pc atleast imo.

Of the $18.85 billion the video game industry generated at North American retailers throughout 2007, only $910.7 million of that, roughly 14%, was attributed to PC games.

Data from the sales-tracking firm NPD reveals that retailers sold 267.8 million games in 2007, 36.4 million of which were PC titles. Console games brought in $6.6 billion, selling 153.9 million units total, while portable software hauled a record $2 billion in revenue with 77.5 million units sold

Well, this generation of consoles are just PC's in a smaller box. The 360 has a better processor than I do...

If consoles go any further, they WILL be a PC.

I find that hard to believe...

If you look at it this way it seems almost EVERY XBOX owner purchased COD4 and almost all bought HALO 3.

Look at it this way. In the average household, almost everyone has a computer. A computer seems to a be a standard for living amongst the human race. The point im trying to make is that, not everyone owns a 360 like they would a PC. No one is going to buy a PS3 or Wii to surf the internet like they would with a computer. A computer still does more than a console.

So in the end, theres that many sales because not everyone owns a 360 like they do a PC. They own PC's because the older generation has the by the time the kids are born even. Or even 5-10 years down the road.

What do you find hard to believe? The amount of revenue? You make it sound now like your going back on what you are saying.

There are a couple of misleading factors to those numbers:

1) The top number of 18.85 billion includes console (and console equipment) purchases. However, it does NOT include computers or computer hardware purchased because it can not be said that people purchase computers specifically for gaming. So, while that 910 million is PC games, the rest is NOT strictly console games...

2) Most of those PC games listed are boxed copies of the games. The 910.7 million most likely does not include many of the games that are purchased and distributed digitally. Companies that put together these reports look specifically at the retail numbers sold...and often miss out on that important number.

That was a great article. Makes me want to buy a new computer. So it will be obsolete by the time those new CPU/GPU chips get mainstream and have all the bugs worked out.

are you kidding? almost 100% of games are playable on the computer. Just get emulators :D.

From the sounds of it your are not obtaining legal ROM files for said emulators which is illegal and considered piracy. That's not allowed on the forums.

PC gamings not dieing, its advancing, rather rapidly at that...
i'm kinda sad at it, since i'm not gonna be able to keep up.

I mean, with PC gaming usually being the pinnacle of graphics game wise, im not gonna be able to keep up. Ive got a so-so machine that's seen better years, a graphics card that consistently craps out if i've got anything graphically set above 800x600 and low settings, a nice screen(b day present) and a 7 year old trackball mouse.

I think PC gaming is doing quite well, but console gaming is just more accessible to everyone. You don't need to be a guru to play console games, its plug and play for the most part. no assembly/modification required with everyone on the same level aside from internet connection.

PC gaming you've got a WIDE range of different set-ups on all levels. Like some people may have a $4000 comp, a $200 mouse with super leet specifications and such, and an uber monitor.

So on that logic I would say console gaming will do better, since its accessible to all ages/audiences.

But PC gaming is most certainly not "dieing"

I think it is. I think there will be slight drops during the course of the next couple years. The reason being, as you said that "PC gamings not dieing, its advancing", which means alot of people arent going to want to spend the money any more to have to upgrade their PCs.

This is easy to explain...
PC is the easiest to pirate, therefor the amount of people who actually buy copies of the games are mainly on consoles.

Not to mention how many free online games their are because the companies make money off in game advertising and stuff.

I hate it when people say PC is dead because I'm pc 4 life...

and I leave on this thought...
Dumbed down for console.
