Okay, so I just played blackmesa for really the first time (been on ti before for about 30 seconds before i was kicked for a scrim). I have to say it was the most frustrating tf2 experience I have had so far. I don't like to go by just scores but it will help. When I left my score was 101, the next person on my team was at 64 or so and the other team had a few people above 60 and a couple 90s. It was a mess, it seemed like everyone didn't know where they were running even though there is a map right when you come out of spawn. Teleporters that go into rooms in the vent area on the wrong side. People camping the vent or corners they like to get kills. I will try it again another day but it seemed like a very unorganized map.

 blashpemy!! Yeah the map just takes time to grow on you, at least you didn't have to start out on the first version of the map, if you wanna talk about confusion on where to go, that map is the definition of it. Once you play on it a couple of times and learn where to go tho its a great map :)

No, I learned where to go very quickly. There are arrows and maps all over the place, but my team was running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Black mesa is hard, I'll admit. Took me a bit to learn it. But yea, Pyros and Spies are loved on this map due to the many vents and dark corners. It also depends on what time you play. For example, the day of a event will usually have alot of eGO members playing about an hour before the event, and they know the map well. Also right afterwards its real good too. Other than that, watch out for spawn campers. :-)

Bugen,

Blackmesa is an advanced map...it was not really ment for noobs.
that being said, any map with teams not really playing is always hard for others that are trying to win

Also note, this was a test version for new cap times and total time. It was a success as far as keeping the map round alive for as long as possible..to the point of even making me batty some times..so...next test version will have new time rules

30 minutes start...No additional time added for caps.....ALL caps will have same cap time.. Start of map will set cap times to a high numbers.... Ever 5 minutes the cap time will be reduced... last 2 minutes will have "sudden death" where the first team to cap will win match no matter who owns what.

why do this?
1) it stops teams from "rolling" the other at the beginning of match (un less attackers pull a scout rush"
2) it allows players to know how long the match could possible last.
3) speeds up possible win near the end allowing teams that have been beatin down a chance to win

yea, sound pretty lofty goals don't it?

Also more vents and exits for spawn to reduce spawn camping...water raised and sharks swimming in the water...did i mention maybe a visit from the g-man?

I Love Blackmesa!!!! Nuff Said!

Agreed...this map is truly a test of teamwork and cooperation...with out it...you have already lost, and teams just...as you said before...run around like they don't know what the heck they are doing...i love this map...a true challenge!

I hated Black Mesa when I first tried it. I had absolutely no clue what I was doing. I didn't play it extensively til just recently when we had an eGO event on it. I still didn't know what I was doing but it was fun. One of the things I did to try and learn the map was to be a Medic. That way I didn't have to worry about where I was going. All I had to do was follow the person in front of me! It was a good way to learn different parts of the map. Granted, you have to trust that they know what they're doing/where they're going but usually there's someone on your team that you can stick with. Plus, being a Medic allows you to help your team while learning the map.

A visit from the G-Man would be a nice easter egg, Dragon. :D Is there any way to import his model from the HL2 files into BlackMesa?

umm..where did you think the head crabs came from?

(:

ALL hl2 models are usable..the problem for most maps is..do they look right for tf2?

since blackmesa is themed around hl...it easy for me to drop them in and players say..kewl!

i just have to make sure that i don't go nutz doing it as they can be more expensive than normal STATIC models (door frames, weird machinery, water tanks, etc, etc)

once i start moving them they also take a performance hit..sooooooo.. i goota watch what i do

I miss the old black mesa, the new black mesa messed with the game flow too much; seeing how everyone else likes it so much i guess I'm in the minority.

I loved Black Mesa Classic, but it had some problems...And I think Dragonhill is doing a good job fixing them, while keeping enough of the BMC feel.

Okay, I played it again tonight and my opinion is that it isn't very class balanced. Nearly anywhere on the map, with the exception of maybe A, pyros just dominate. Long hallways and big open areas where snipers can dominate, INCLUDING a door that can only be opened from one side where snipers camp all day long. To get there you can use a vent where if you meet up with a pyro you are very likely to be dominated as well. Lots of random places for spy's to come out of no where. The engineer's usually choose to find a room or vent to camp all day long. Though I was not totally on top fo my game tonight it seemed as though every corner I peeked around, if there wasn't a sniper down the hall then there was a pyro coming or waiting above me to jump down with is little back burner.

Bugen, while i'm not going to knock your personal experience on blackmesa i just thought i would let you know how "I" play most of the times

Heavy...or soldier..or demo (i feel like i'm cheap when i go demo,,too easy)

while i do dominate as pyro i have found that smart heavy's and soldiers can obliterate pyros. Honestly i have even played scout or sniper..and i ussualy hate playing those.

there are areas that favor one class over the other..but there is always at least some area for each class..may take time to learn them..but when in doubt..go medic!.. seriously..most teams with 2 or 3 medics win blackmesa..

I didnt like it much at first, but after it was streamlined I grew to like the map alot. It is truly a great map and I am glad we can support it, and I think the community at large likes it as well. There arent many custom maps (especially on a single server) that are in the top 100, but blackmesa is so all those people cant be wrong.

I cant wait to see Dragons new map.....if he ever stops playing blackmesa long enough to finish it!
