Day Of Defeat House Forum Changes

In an effort to bring our DoD:S houses closer, Slayr357 and Kamakize Tommy have decided to close the private house forums to member posting. House Leaders will still be able to post announcements for individual houses, but the forums will be "read only" for everyone else. The change is expected to take place within the next two days.

All DoD:S members are encouraged to use the eG and eGO private forums from now on.

Also, please don't forget to sign up for maul, we will be purging the system in a couple of days. Which means your admin will go bye bye if you don't get maul verified.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask them.

It may bring us "closer" to other houses, but won't making each house's private forum read-only bring them farther apart from their own house's members?

:(

I agree with Desert. This may bring the whole clan together slightly, but at the sacrifice of a closeness that is much stronger and already exists.

Agreed, I don't like it at all.. are we going to just get rid of the houses too.. and play where you want as one big house? plus I check the forums 3+ times a day and if I can't post why bother checking them?

Fellas this is edgegamers first, you have =(eGO)= in the front of your name right? Its not the end of the world, you guys can still visit the forums and talk with your friends.

just curious: are we sitll gonna have house recruit forums? i know house leaders can still post announcments and such, but if the house forums get closed how are new people supposed to apply for house memberships?

...

Umm not sure about this.... so we won't have any privacy in our own houses anymore? Cause if that's the case then I'm not very fond of this idea....

I have the same question as Rooster. If the house forums will be closed to all but House Leaders, then how will we get new house members? Are they supposed to say which house they want to join when they sign up for the division? Because in that case, I could see a few more Free Agents. I wasn't sure which house I wanted to join until a few weeks in the clan. Or is this also meant to be an end to houses in the sense that whoever is in, is in, and that's it?

And personally I'm not exactly too sure how it's gonna bring the houses closer together. I mean, I can understand wanting to bring them closer, but I'm not sure how this will achieve that goal. In the end people will probably still talk with their house members more and play on their house maps more often than not.

If there are going to be more DoD events then that would be perfect and I can see it bringing the houses closer together. Currently, I've only seen roadtrips, and those are for eG and up. The e's become excluded and so those in the DoD division only feel like they aren't really part of a clan, just more like a loose community. I believe this is the reason why I see more e's who are only in the DoD division leave more often than those only in TF2 or those who are multi-division. I'm not going to be naive and say that's the only reason, I know some of them also leave because they just want the admin and haven't gotten it within like the first couple months, but I wouldn't rule out feeling excluded as another.

TF2 seems to be the vanguard of our clan. We have Monday Madness, Edgegamers hour, Late Night Fights, Class fights on Saturdays, Royal Rumbles, Roadtrips, etc. Not to mention our admins in TF2 are better trained, in my opinion. We have a mandatory admin class that covers all the material that is listed when you gain access to the DoD eG private forums, but there is more stuff that isn't covered. We also have established Division Leaders and advisors. I think DoD needs these as well.

I don't want to sound ungrateful. I'm not. I love the clan and I love feeling like I'm part of a larger community. But I'm not gonna lie and say that the DoD division is anywhere as good as the TF2 one. I joined the DoD division first, and I feel like it's deteriorated a little since I joined. Don't get me wrong, I still love playing DoD, but I also find myself playing on TF2 more and feeling more like part of the clan because of all the events and feeling of closeness.

tl;dr version:
-Are people still gonna be able to sign up for houses?
-How is this gonna bring the houses closer together?
-We need more DoD events.
-TF2 has better admin training and organization with advisors and division leaders.
-I feel closer to the TF2 division even though I joined the DoD one first.

Well, I understand the thought process in which you guys are thinking. Houses will not have the privacy in which they want...

...but think about it. How much "privacy" can a house really have? Not a lot to my knowledge. Although it may seem that houses may be "breaking apart" by losing these, remember we all have own own respective servers in which the houses have adopted. Most discussion not related to houses should go into the regular forums anyway. Many of the house forums (at least Imperial Guard's) are basically to inform them about roll calls, events and the like. Stuff that can easily be done in a general DoD forum.

I was a bit on the "no" side at first, but I do see it doing more good than harm. Whatever can bring the clan closer together is fine by me.

As to answer Dogma a bit: The reason there aren't any Division Leaders is because House Leaders basically have the responsibilities that are equivalent of an Advisor and Division Leader (at least at the moment).

As for events, I sure would like to see more, but there's so much right now that needs to be adjusted as well. :p

I have mixed feelings about this, to be honest. I know I will miss our H/H private forum and how it has helped us forge our own identity and unity as a house, but coming from one house in one division in one clan, I also cannot know what goes on next door in other private areas.

I know why the subject of having separate houses is tenuous: I know of the fear of having whole groups calve off to make their own clan (and that it has happened in the recent past). I've heard that that is the main reason against House v. House scrims, the almost inevitable feeling of pride and superiority in one house.

But yet, I'm proud of the Hell Hounds, and I'm proud of the flash server when I see it full. It's like a small family unit in a larger family, or some weird gaming mafia. I think eGO has provided for us a good climate to meet and get to know some excellent players and individuals, and I like knowing that I'll run into more of the same no matter what server I play on.

I know most of the H/H players, and I know a lot of players in most of the other houses, but it's always been to me like a "wink and nod" sort of deal with other players in the clan when I see them: like we're on the same side, "but my unit's better." Think Army v. Navy.

The House system is what drew me to this clan to begin with, and I know it's not going out the door just yet. It just saddens me to see a little of that go. Sorry for going off-topic, but that's my 50 cents.

Let's just try it, if it doesn't work we can look for a new way.

I have always felt that we were all pretty close though, I have friends in pretty much all the houses. (I payed them alot :p)

i think it is a lot of crap i am very bad right now if u keep taking these away from the founding base of this clan(DOD:s) u are not getting us closer but getting people to leave. first was the scrim league taken away even when there was not real problem, then take away non- offical scrim because only a few whined, now our private fourms these is not making us closer but pushing the old members away. what is next take away the houses or delete DOD:S because i have that feeling. i feel like a redheaded stepchlid here all kind event are no more and u all wonder why people leave like the FL house or half of them. i feel in this very strong but i know my voice does not matter at all here. only the demi-gods (council) have a voice. as u see i am very bad. u never seen me complain too much i am a loyal guy but one can be pushed too far. i know i will step on toes but i don t care. but this is crap

Not quite sure how I feel about this, however desperate times call for desperate measures.

We are all in Edge Gamers™ Organization together. As far as im aware the house system will still be inplace. This is designed to keep eGs and eGOs comunicating together as a whole instead of house discussions only.
