Petition to EA to remove their DRM.

Hold on now, I know what you're going to say. I know politics aren't allowed here but hear me out first.

As you may or may not know, EA recently published the games Spore and Crysis:Warhead. Both of these games are great games that DESERVE to be purchased and played, but will not be for the following reason:

EA has decided to include DRM (Digital Rights Management[ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Rights_Management ]) in the form of SecuROM [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SecuROM ]. In doing so, EA has also imposed an installation limit of how many times you may install the game. Also, if you change your computer hardware at any time, this counts as another installation. The DRM is also present on the downloaded Steam version.

There have already been hundreds of 1/5 star ratings on Amazon and other sites of the like, so this petition is here to unify the concerned customers so that EA may fully recognize its error. Supposedly, if you call into EA's customer support, they will handle giving you more activations on a "case by case basis", but from what I have read around, they are not granting very many.

This petition is to show EA how big of a mistake they are making, and by signing you are saying that you STRONGLY disagree with their decision. You may also include if you are no longer planning on purchasing the game, or if you already have and are using a crack for it. Let the public know about the violation of rights that EA is so willingly ready to commit. When this gets 5,000 signees, I will submit it to all major news circuits, so spread it around.

If you agree that the DRM is ridiculous, PLEASE sign the petition. This is the only unified way of showing our disapproval and disgust to EA.

(Admins if this is breaking another rule, let me know before you delete it if it's one that I can fix, if not then go ahead and delete it I guess.)
 
Do note, they allow installation on 5 MACHINES, not total installs.

Doesn't affect me, but I'm signing it none-the-less. Screw DRM. There shouldn't be any limits on how many machines you install it on, or how many times you re-install it. Limiting the number of ACTIVE machines, yes, but not total machines allowed.

Uh, do online petitions like this ever work? You'll need a lot of signatures before they would even take notice.

Kinda silly if you ask me, Spore's a fine game. Giving it 1 star on Amazon just because of some DRM is going a bit overboard. Then again, does anyone bother reading the reviews on Amazon?
 
In six months they will be selling spore for 10 bucks, just like BF is now 20 bucks for the series. EA people must be really not smart.
 
So... whats different than before? The fact that they're actually telling people? Or the fact that you don't know how to nullify the DRM?
 
All in all I think it is a companies prerogative to be able to put whatever they want in their software. As it is the consumers prerogative to pick and choose which products they want to purchase.

I believe "caveat emptor" comes into play here. Personally I just choose not to buy EA games because of the DRM and the blatant use of in game ADs. Some will buy their games regardless of EA's implementation of DRM programs and ingame advertising. Let market forces choose the outcome of this, in all likelihood EA will loose enough money on Spore solely due to DRM. If they receive repeated financial blows in which DRM is the primary culprit then they may drop it all together.

A petitions seems a bit on the childish side. A company such as EA really doesn't care what the customers say unless it's with their wallets. If you don't agree with EA's practices don't buy their products.
 
when it really comes down to it, its all bout the $$ 2 ea. the fewer mount of computers that the game is on, the happier they r (imo ne ways). im def signin it.

After much controversy, EA has decided to loosen the DRM restrictions on Crysis: Warhead and Spore.

The previous restrictions allowed users to install a game only 3 times. Ea has seemingly listened to their complaints and upped the maximum installed to five! Oh, you heard right, now you can install it on 2 more computers! I know, pretty sweet right? DRM is supposed to deter piracy right? Then why is Spore the most pirated game ever? Hopefully, EA will see the light and remove the wretched DRM.

Here's what else they changed:

Going forward, we will amend the DRM policy on Spore to:



* Expand the number of eligible machines from three to five.

* Continue to offer channels to request additional activations where warranted.

* Expedite our development of a system that will allow consumers to de-authorize machines and move authorizations to new machines. When this system goes online, it will effectively give players direct control to manage their authorizations between an unlimited number of machines.

As for my stance, I'm not to happy about DRM being on anything but music in the first place.
