Ok, last night I felt like checking my position on HLStats, just for the heck of it really, but also to see if I had past my long time rival Duke1701. Well needless to say this is what I found.

Pure evil! I call Hax! Lol.

Oooh..that is cruel. :( Surely you'll be able to leap-frog ahead today if you play well?

Shenanigans! Get in there and pwn some people! Dont stop until your rank is in the 500's! Its the only way to be sure!

I'm definitely ganna get some kills in, but I wanna do it when hes on too. Nothing would feel better than passing him in-game, lol. I'll be past him by tomorrow I know it. Till then, lend me ya'll 1337 skillz! lol.

I cant seem to get into the triple digits no matter how long I play Its annoyingggg. As for you, thats just...wow.......

wow that's so close at least you got some points when you dominated me so many times lol

Me, I don't care a single thing about stats. Sometimes I play seriously, sometimes I mess around, so meh.

Mostly I play seriously, but not enough to care about my stats.

lol we need to start playing the rocky theme in your honor, Chris.

There was only one time that i made it to a three digit rank on the eGO servers. lasted about one day, then went through a horrible two week stink that put me back to rank 2500 or so.

BUt now i do better :D

So don't feel bad about your rank. For awhile I just assumed that my rank would go up if I had a better kill-to-death ratio. However I completely failed to realize that the number of points you earn/lose depends on the rank of those you kill or who kill you. You lose a lot more points for getting killed by someone who is lower ranked than you. The amount you lose will increase according to how much lower the rank of the person is that kills you.

Even though I average 4 kills for every 1 time I died, my rank was going down. Then I realized that even if I get 10 kills, I would undo all of those points by getting killed by a lucky shot from a new player. If you put yourself in harms way on a server populated by lower ranked players, you are more likely to lose points or break even if you are good, than to gain points.

The key to moving up the ladder is to play with other players who are ranked higher than you, or as in the case of the player "2 Engineers 1 Dispenser" you try your best to avoid getting killed at all costs (he's currently ranked #16).

2 Engies plays on the 24/7 2fort server. I think his a good teammate to have because he is a very reliable engineer and you always know where to find his sentry. However, i've noticed that he doesn't take risks. Even when he switches to demo, he will never leave the base and just lobs grenades off of the battlements. In any game where the top three players will have accumulated between 150-200 points, 2 Engies will only score 20-50 points. What he does is avoid getting killed, period. He sets up one sentry gun that gets occassional kills, and he stays down in intel or in the spawn where he picks off a spy every once in awhile. Slowly and steadily he has climbed the ranks and now he's in the top 20. He's method of moving up the ranks requires an enourmous amount of patience.

I don't view this as cheating, because a higher rank doesn't imbue one with any sort of in-game advantage. He's just identified a way to take advantage of the scoring system of HLStatsX and tip it in his favor. If you want to move up the ranks, try to play in eG vs. eGO events where there are more players of a higher rank than you. Or pick a capture-the-flag map, build a sentry, hide, and be patient :-P

:;points at Letwooses reply:: Very true, I've killed 2 Engies plenty of times in my 3 months playing. Though going Engy with him is far more fun. :)

ya it sucks when u get higher rank and theres only 50 some ppl ahead of you to kill to get a better rank... and maybe 1 or 2 of those ppl actually play....

you end up havin to have a 10-20 kdr just to go up in rank..

but gratz to you for passing your nemesis :)

I don't necessarily think he does it for the rank. I used to play a lot of engi on 2fort as well but I rarely left the base and when I did it was always to try to build in the opposing sewer. I steadily went up in the ranks and got low points in most games but it was not because I was looking to score points, but whenever I wasn't there a scout could easily take the intel every round. It does take patience to sit there and you can't take risks because your sentry/dispenser need you alive, they can't repair themselves. Now, I don't play much engi or 2fort much anymore but when I do I play engi and go to the same spots for the reason that it seems most engi's are oblivious to where they should be and what they should be doing.
