The Witcher game; is it good?

I've been a fan of the short stories and novels set in the universe of The Witcher pretty much all my life. I must've been hiding under a rock, because I had no idea there existed a game of it until the Enhanced Edition came out on Steam. I've really wanted to give it a spin because from what I've gathered online; it accurately translates the originals style and story (It's gotta at least be better than the awful 2003 movie version. Seriously, wtf happened there?) I'm not a huge RPG fan, I'm pretty picky, but if it conveys the universe well I'll be sold (Kinda like KotOR. I wasn't digging the gameplay, but I loved the game simply for the story and the great portrayal of the Star Wars universe). Does anyone here have the game? Is it worth the purchase? I don't want to be disappointed like I was with the movie... If I'm given a genuine Witcher experience I'll be one happy camper. :D
 
I bought the game when it came out last fall. I really enjoyed the game as an RPG fan. I thought the story was good and very original for RPG. Well at least compare to US PC/PS/Xbox RPG games' stories, but I guess you know that very well since you are a fan of the Polish author (forgot his name :( ) Only down side was later on the fighting get too easy. I feel the problem is the main character get too strong compare to monsters. Any ways, I would recommend it buying the retail version. It comes with all the goodies. :D
 
Andrzej Sapkowski is the authors name. I can remember how to spell it but never how to pronounce it.

I tried out the demo and I think I've found meself a must buy. At first the combat confused the hell out of me, but thats only because I was assuming. Generally when I'm at an isometric view and have to click on enemies I assume it's a hack-n-slash like Diablo so I kept dying because I kept just clicking over and over again until I realized it was meant to be a bit more tactical... which is actually a good thing (Generally if an RPGs gameplay hooks me its because of Tactics.. Kinda like fallout). They're also doing a fairly good job with the style so far. No, the story isn't as good, but generally when are adaptations are as good? They're still doing a surprisingly good job though, and all you really ask from an adaptation is that its good.
 
It's not a bad game, especially for a euro-RPG (probably the best one of those). There's a lot of "grind" in it, it's like a single player MMORPG'er.

As for the story, while he's a rip of Elric of Melnibone', it's still entertaining and unpredictable enough to keep you guessing.

I was gonna post his link, but thought it'd be a bit, uhh, "spicy". It IS funny, though - and on point. Yahtzee's problem is he thinks Half Life 2 was the best game ever :P, and he's biased towards the pure FPS.

Andrew? Really?!?!

I do appreciate pronunciation and the English equivalent, but it kinda takes away the mystery... He was a cool foreign dude who I could not even pronounce his name.

Now I can go look for his book at a bookstore, though. :)
