Im truly tired of being made fun of when i say "im going to get a pop". POP is the correct way to describe a carbonated soft drink. it describes more than one drink in one word, and when and there really isnt another kind of pop. Soda, however can be used in several different applications including industrial and cooking. Lastly, "Coke" is a well known brand of cola, which will also remove rust from hunting knives. (try it)

Haha, I usually say Soda, but now you talk about it, Pop would seem better. Soda can mean many things like you said. And coke, well, let me not go that far in that subject. Haha.. Well, I might start saying Pop more, it even sounds better than saying "soda"

Actually now that I look at the chart again, I don't know if its me or not, but if you look more to the middle of USA, Mideastern and the east, the northern part says Pop and the southern area says soda. It could just be different ways people say it depending on the region they live in. In different states, they have different accents and ways they talk, that could be the reason people say soda more in the south. I live in NY, and I still see a lot of people say 'soda' more than 'pop'.
 
They are all soft drinks therefore should be called, soft drinks. Or carbonated beverage. :)
 
I was born in NY, and we called it soda. When we moved to SD, I had to learn to call it Pop, and still do to this day. :D
 
bah, due to today's lingo, soda is universal for a carbonated drink.
 
I've lived in Wisconsin and Texas. Up there they all make fun of those who say soda. Down here they make fun of those who say pop. My favorite is to go with whatever seems to bug people the most, you get more interesting reactions that way :p

Truly such a minor detail in life that people get worked up over, lol.
 
Pretty cool to see where, people say what, Ive heard them all since Ive lived all over but I still just call it soda.
 
Ive always said pop, but not cause its the "correct" usage, just cause its fun.
 
I've lived in Michigan all my life, and it has always been pop to me!

Fun side note: 10 years ago I was on a mission trip to Mexico, and down there everything is a coke no matter what. If you want a sprite you'd say "coke-sprite" or something like that. You want a diet you'd say "coke diet coke."
 
Pop can be used as a different term as well. Soft drink or carbonated beverage are the "correct" terms.
 
SSOOOOOOO-DDAAAAAAAAA. I can't help it... I'm surrounded here in MA.

Pop does sound cooler, though.. Maybe it's just because NO-ONE says it up here.

Most people around here say coke, with soda a distant second.

I've never heard anyone ask for a pop? Sounds like someone asking to be hit :confused:
 
Around Asia they call it just coke...... Ive always just ask for coke when i want a soda/pop.. pepsi coke (both taste the same to me)
