It's hard to say. I'm going to list my top anime movies, not TV series right now. I shall link Trailers to each one, note that the trailer for Dead Leaves is somewhat NSFW. Also, most of the trailers are in Japanese, so you may not understand them if you don't speak it, but you still will get a sense of their style.
1. Paprika: What can I say about Paprika? It is unique. It is funny. It easily has the greatest animation I have ever seen in an Anime. The Animation blends perfectly, fits the amazingly unique and imaginative premise, perfectly conveys the energy of the film, its gorgeously detailed and the expressions and actual animation are simply unheard of in Anime, there is more motion in this Anime than any other. As for the film itself, Its energetic, it has a unique and fun story, and it can be enjoyed by just about anyone of any age (It got an over the top R rating here in America due to some nudity, when truly the it should've gotten away with a PG. I think even a PG-13 is harsh.) The film is essentially an imaginative fantasy about a machine that allows people to enter their own imagination. The people begin to go insane and go into comas, living inside their imagination driving them selves to true insanity. The line begins to blur, and the insanity spreads straight out into the real world as a typical female scientist, uses the machine to her advantage to release her fun, energetic alter ego, Paprika to use the imagination of others to her advantage and save them. It is imaginative, energetic, fun, fascinating, gorgeous and a film that really must be seen to be believed.

2. Koukaku Kidoutai 2: Innosensu (Ghost in the Shell 2) Ghost in the Shell, underwhelmed in truth. While its artwork was tons better than the original artwork in the manga, and it definitely removed some of the fan service, but it ruined the plot by trying to stuff it into such a short run time. The sequel fixed this by creating a new story in the universe, and once again employing beautiful animation and music. Focused in one of the most complex cyber-punk universes ever, Koukaku Kidoutai 2 embodied everything that Cyberpunk is as well as mixing in a healthy dose of Japanese mythology and meaningful philosophy.

3. Mononoke Hime (Princess Mononoke): It combines Japanese mythology, religion, culture and history effectively, and then solidifies the package by providing an entertaining plot, great characters, beautiful animation, and so much more. The film is set in a time of gods and demons, in a world where a scorned and defeated god will turn into a demon. The world is at war, nature is at war with the humans bringing in the modern technologies while the humans are at war with themselves, the Samurai attempting to catch up with the technology. A cursed prince is outlawed from his village, searching for a cure for his curse that will consume his soul if he feels hatred, and he gets involved with the war between the gods and the modern civilization and becomes involved with a woman raised by wolves with a hatred for humanity.

4. Spirited Away: Come on, you should know this movie and why it is so beloved. I don't even need a trailer for this one.
5. Tokyo Godfathers: Made by Satoshi Kon, who directed the earlier mentioned Paprika is easily not only an amazing anime film, but one of the greatest dramatic comedy films to come out in years. It has the wild and varied animation that set Paprika apart from other anime animation, it has a story with truly lovable characters, it is paced perfectly and knows how to handle the comedy and drama appropriately without feeling inconsistent or hackneyed.

6. Dead Leaves: This film is simply INSANE. It has a unique blend of noir and cyber punk visuals, and every second of the movie is hyped on caffeine and it never slows. Each scene is either extremely funny, extremely cool, extremely weird, and always extremely fun. The amount of energy in this film has to be seen to be believed, and even the included trailer barely does justice to the total chaotic, bizarre, nonsensical insanity of this film. The plot doesn't make much sense, it deals with two 'mutants,' retro a male born with a television for a head and Pandy, given her name because of a panda like mark on her face. They wake up on Earth with no real idea what they are or where they come from, and they don't really care. Their first instinct? Total rampage. Guns, money, murder and mayhem. After beating down thousands of zombie like cops and a random giant robot, they are captured and sent to the remnants of the moon- which has been turned into a maximum security prison and insane asylum known as Dead Leaves. Led by a crazy warden who is really a monster caterpillar/moth in disguise and a pair of manic shinigami that treat the prisoners like crap, Pandy, Retro and the other prisoners begin their chaotic escape from the bizarre prison.
