URGENT: computer help

ok so last night i was on my moms computer and i installed itunes and internet explorer 7 and then i reset it now it turns on then it says windows is closing down windows or somthing like that it shows the desktop but not icons or start bar and befour you all ask i know nothing about the specs of this computer other then its running xp and its an IBM computer so now i need to fix it i could restore it but that is a LAST LAST LASSST case thing cause she has all her pics on it and i dont wanna loose them cause she would killlll me or take my computer for a while so can some one smarter them me help me thanks in advance :S

So... what's it doing exactly?

It boots up, and nothing comes up on the screen?

Does it make the windows starting fanfare at all?

I would recommend uninstalling the new programs by going into windows safe mode. First itunes, restart and see if it fixes the problem, if not, remove IE7. Instructions on how to get to safe mode here -> http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm

You may want to try the "Last Known Good Configuration" first

Boot system right as Windows is about to start loading tap on the F8 key
In the Windows Advance startup menu select "Last Known Good Configuration"

There's this new thing, called a period. Use it.

You're saying the desktop loads, but not the start menu or task bar? Hit "Ctrl-Alt-Del" and then click on "New Task". Type in "explorer.exe" and hit enter.

If nothing of above worked, you can take the HD and install it to another system, backup all the information, reinstall to your mom's pc and do a system restore. I had to do that with my HD.

Have you tried System Restore? "START menu->Accesories->System Tools->System Restore" and choose one of the oldest restore point; use one that shows something about "Installing windows updates".

Heye dude, try F10 as well, some motherboards have different keys set to bring up things during boot.
