Issue with Steam

So I've had an error pop up for steam when it initially starts, saying something about it being already used by another process. Found out that its from Steam and my Webroot antivirus starting simultaneously. Fixed that, but now I have this issue where if I look at server info windows kills it, or if I join a server, I make it to the welcome screen and windows kills it. It just locks up, but I can stil ctrl alt del out of it. Hasn't started since this recent patch. I've reinstalled the steam client and really am trying to avoid a full uninstall/reinstall as it would wipe out all my games on it.

Has anyone had any similar issues with this? I've looked over on the Steam forums and haven't really been able to find much.

Turn off your anti-virus before launching and see if it works.

Did that. No longer getting a registry error.

Still unable to look at server info without it crashing. Also I seem to be able to get in game but now my sound is all screwed up. Just reinstalled audio drivers with no change. This is getting incredibly irritating... I have a feeling I'm going to have to format...

Check the consistency of your game files? Also defrag your game files?

Before anything, backup your steam folders. Next, use glary utilities to do a registry scan. It saved me for doing a system restore twice with some issues with steam in the past.

Ended up just uninstalling Steam, wiping out my games and reinstalling. Works fine now, but bummed it had to come to that. Oh well.
