Server issues

Ok, I tried creating my own game for a fellow friend to join, but he said it displayed "Server not responding", I tried making a dedicated server, same effect.
I read somewhere that my port wasn't forwarded correctly, so I went about fixing that. I just started the dedicated server again, and still the same error.

What am I doing wrong? I really really need to set up my own server for a temporary project.

Port 27015 has to be forwarded and they MUST connect through console If they do it through steamfriends it will try to connect them to your local ip: 192.168.1.xxx. (edit)

If that's not working disable your windows firewall.

If that doesn't work try disabling your antivirus is you have one.

Well he's trying to let people connect... and you should only do that as a last resort. :O

Ok, I'll try having them connect through the console, but how can I fix this in the future? It seems a little... difficult to connect through the console.

There is no way to fix it... it's an issue with how steam gets the IP for steamfriends.

if you want friends then open the 1200 port. that should let the friends thing in.

lol, i know this might be wrong, but i dont even have any anti-virus on my machine... like nothing, its non-existant. lol been perfectly fine for over 1.5 years now

It's both right and wrong. Running anti-virus software is definitely a good idea. However, just because you are running some AV software, it doesn't mean that your computer is 100% protected against all attacks. Most (if not all) AV software works by looking for specific signatures of viruses inside of files. Many times the software doesn't know about the newest signatures (that's why you constantly have to update your virus definitions). Furthermore, many new versions of malware that are being released are actually able to completely disable or subvert several versions of AV software running on the box.

So I would say the more firewalls, AV software, and so on that you install the less chance you have of your system being compromised. But just because you install one program or even 30 programs, it doesn't mean that your system is 100% secure.

Unless you disabled it and am running Windows 8 or 10 there is a program called windows defender that is an anti-virus program and is installed automatically when windows is installed.

Looks like a spammer got past some things. Thankfully doesn?t happen too often and usually gets moderated . Perhaps an idea though, at least locking old threads. I think vbulletin has a job you can run for it.
