Messed up my sound card settings... or something

Okay, so first a short backstory. Lately I watched Back to the Future and as a result I've saying a lot of quotes from the movie. Usually 1.21 gigawatts. So to be funny, I decided to set it up so I could play Back to the Future soundclips via soundboard when my friends are on who I know won't get upset. On the upside, I got it to work. On the downside, I have the problem I'm now gonna talk about.

Apparently, following the instructions found here lets me play music or use soundboards or whatever. However, it also asploded my settings related to my mic. So now, regardless of what program I use, whether it's a game (I assume. I don't want to try until I fix it, or at least believe I did), Ventrilo (for sure), or Audacity (which is how I came to my conclusion) it doesn't work quite right.

Basically, whenever I would be recording/transmitting with the mic, it registers whatever is playing on my computer (a.k.a what I should be hearing) instead of what I'm saying. I believe this is related to my sound card settings or something. Any suggestions?

Try the other suggestion I gave before this one, this is a last resort.

Could be one quite possible simple solution to that and really not much of a hassle.

Heres what you do,

Right click on "My Computer" or "Computer" in the start menu and goto Manage.
When it opens up it should look like something like this, once in Manage goto Device Manager and goto "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" like in the picture. This one is an example this is my computer, my sound card is Creative Soundblaster Extreme Gamer X-Fi "Creative X-Fi" for sort, right click and uninstall.

Once your done that goto your sound cards manufacturer website ie, mine "www.creative.com". and simple download and install the lastest drivers for your sound card and restart.

If that does not work on your far right of your screen right click on the volume icon and goto "Recording Devices" this is Windows Vista, Windows XP might look alittle different but the same idea.

Well I got it to work before I read these suggestions, but I'm not sure what exactly I did that got it to work, only a rough guess of the general things I did. Thanks anyway. I'll definitely keep these in mind for the future.

keep it simple remember the vent settings you had prior to the change and set it back and forth depending on your needs that should fix it

Yeah that was the first thing I tried. Eventually I went to that master volume icon and switched to recording and did absolutely nothing regarding the advanced settings, yet I think that somehow fixed it. I'm tempted to screw it up again just to see if I can figure out what exactly worked during that process.
