I clicked it nothing happens still don't click it please. Though it gives you like 3 options with the username and password box so everyone please don't click in case. Hopefully someone can report this soon?
 
Having had experience over... Well... Basically my whole life with this kind of "hacker" (ranging from Neopets to Gaia to Myspace), I can tell you that the site probably is just a mock up of the Steam Support page... And I'm willing to bet that it has boxes for username and password, and that's probably it. Oh yeah, and there's probably grammatical errors that should tip anyone off.

It's sad that people fall for this stuff...

Your tools:

Win + R - run this command: "cmd"

Type in "ping whatevertheirdomainnameis.com"

See the IP address that comes up ( internet provider. lol XD ) - type that into Arin's WHOIS

It'll pull up the ISP. Look for the abuse address.

Write a letter (email) to abuse.

Here's a sample message of what you send to the IP administrator for that server:

http://news.spamcop.net/pipermail/spamcop-list/2002-May/004859.html

Just change it to phishing instead of spamming. A nice well worded message saying "I'm bringing this matter to your attention. Please consider the situation and take appropriate action."

Keys to remember when e-mailing an ISP admin:

- They know their own TOS. Don't quote it.
- They know whatever the customer is doing is wrong. Just let them know what they're doing.
- Don't TELL them what to do. Just let them know that whatever they do is appreciated.
- Keep your messages professional, well worded. Don't be hostile. They don't need to do anything.

Maybe. Sometimes it does, sometimes it does not.

- Brining a potentially illegal situation to the attention of the ISP opens them up for liability under federal law. As long as they're in the US, that is. They can claim ignorance LEGALLY until they are notified. Once you bring them on notice - they are potentially liable. Thus - it's either DO something about it, or figure out why you can't do something about it. Or at the least, give the idiot a warning and scare them into cutting it out.

I tell you - on the site I admin - when I get notices from our users about situations with our website, I take them seriously - jump right on and find out what's up - and what I can do about it. Hopefully, correct it within seconds.

I've got money riding on it, a reputation, and my job.

I tell you this. When I went after peoples accounts - and pulled these reporting things on people who posted "against-the-rules" messages ... I don't know how many accounts I slayed - I stopped counting after maybe 50. (;) I've been online near 15 years - the number is quite much higher.) So yes, it can work.

And not to mention, very few people take the time to bring potentially flammable situations to my attention ... so ... go figure. It's either people are afraid to do write to an admin, don't know how to, or don't care. Think about that for a sec.

[ NOTE : If you do commerce/business/board etc - it's sometimes good to NOT kill user accounts. Wait a minute WHAT DID YOU SAY?! Yes, I just said it's good to leave the trollers/phishers/scammers alone. Why, you ask? Because they stay on 1 net connection - and don't realize YOU are aware of who they are, where they are, and what they're up to. If you're a USER - going after these guys is one thing. If you're running a site/server/board - It's better to know thy enemy - than to break off their connection ... and let them become unknown to you again. Why work twice? ]

I believe there's a HUGE difference between someone who knows the guts of a computer - and someone who just skimmed the details enough to trick people.

It's like comparing a mechanic to an auto detailer.

One can trick out your car - the other can just make it look nice.

What we will do is freeze your username and password so it cannot be changed and Encryption at 1024 bit which makes it impossible to hack.

"SteampoweredAdmin" - Empty you must complie or we will be forced to shutdown your account.

"SteampoweredAdmin" - You have 20 minutes to complie.
20 minutes later
"SteampoweredAdmin" logged off.

Epicfail lol

Then they say it again and I say Nope. and log off. These guys are fun to deal with XD
 
I realised one thing, this has never happened to me, but while ive been here so many eGO members have posted on the forums about something like this happening, it only seems to be eGO members lol. :)
 
meh i have seen this before, but luckly I am smart enough not to click on it... it reminds me of the emails i used to get from "Blizzard" that said i needed to supply my WoW account info because they were doing a scan. Now i have a feeling steam is the same as WoW and there is a quote i will just say now to have you all burn it in your brains.

"A Blizzard Employee will NEVER ask for your password."
 
well really they want you to go to there site and put your steam account info on that little submit page and send it to them where they will log on and i guess steal ur games

pretty much scaming
 
The danger of clicking the link comes from when you are using steam rather than the Internet to browse when he sends you the link. If you follow the link from the chat box you will arrive on the fake page still signed in so all your account details go over to the scammer. You need to be really careful in situations like this.
