So I walked into Fry's yesterday with a wad of cash and left with some change. So now, for the first time ever, I have a near top-of-the-line rig to play with :D

My priority was a solid mobo/case/psu so I had a foundation to upgrade on over the years if necessary.

Case: Coolermaster HAF932 - very nice case, but huge. Won't even fit under desk and is too wide for top of it. Still worth every penny though.

Motherboard: Asus P5Q3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP - Quad Crossfire, built for watercooling, more features than I'll ever find a use for. Surprised I didn't short it out drooling over it during install.

CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q9550 - 2.83gHz x 4@1333 fsb and 12mb of cache?...nice...nice.

CPU Fan: Thermaltake V1 - Wins on looks alone.

Power Supply: Thermaltake Toughpower 750w - mmm modular

Video Card: Visiontek Radeon 4850 512MB - Finally! A PCI-E card. Wanted the 1gb versions but "the spur of the moment" beats "want" every time.

RAM: Viper Patriot 2x2GB (4GB) DDR3 1600 - Low CAS w/ room to overclock ftw!

Hard Drives: 2 x Seagate Barracuda 500gb 7200rpm 16mb cache - Running those in RAID 0. - p.s. the HAF cases HD rack system is the win.

Keyboard: Logitech G15 - ooo! Flashy things!

Mouse: Logitech G9 - 3000dpi? Can my aged hands even move that precisely?


Ran Crysis:Warhead on max settings without so much as stutter. Vista is quick and responsive. Can't say I have a single complaint about what I spent on it except the case IS FRIGGIN HUGE!. But it's beyond awesome so I'll forgive.
 
Holy crap, you got that at Fry's? That's a beast of a machine. Nice :)

I'm planning to get a HAF392 and a Q9550 too...

As for the prices...

Case - $160
Mobo - Around $230-$250 maybe?
CPU - $329
Cooler - $60
PSU - $180
GPU - $200
RAM - $160 maybe?
HDD - $110 x 2 = $220
Keyboard - $80
Mouse - $100

That's just a rough estimate...plus that doesn't include taxes.
 
Real nice setup there man. I have to get something new myself since I am crazy CPU limited. Hopefully I can get something in February or March when I get my vacation check and income tax return. :)

You still have room for a couple more 4850 cards in the future, because the Q9550 can probably handle more :P

Also, Velociraptor Hard drives FTW
 
Another thought on your machine Han, not that it really amounts to anything.

You should know that while your board supports Crossfire and has two PCI-E x16 slots, it will only run Crossfire at a x8 link. This was a huge factor for why I chose Intel's X48 over the P45 since I wanted to be running Crossfire at a full speed link right out of the gate.

Again, not really that big of a deal, but I thought you should be aware.

Yeah Weaz I considered that myself. But after seeing how well a single 4850 performs in Crysis, etc...I think the whole SLI/Crossfire thing might be highly overrated.

I've ran Crysis:Warhead on Extreme/8x/1680x1050 and Warhammer maxed out @1680x1050 and not so much as a stutter even when rushing through high population areas. <3


Oh, and yesterday I bought something I haven't had in decades...SPEAKERS!! Nice set of Logitech X540's. I hadn't used speakers in so long i still had the ORIGINAL creative desktop speakers sitting on my desk from like 1981. :P

Also picked up a new desk. So I'm all pimped out now. :D
