hey guys which do you think is the better cpu overall

Intel dual core
Intel quad core
AMDx2
AMDx4

Choose Either the Intel 2x or 4x, I rather get them. Right now, I heard dual core is good for gaming at this generation right now, get quad, and a water cooler to overclock if you want too.

0.o How does one processor crash less than another 0.o

A highly clocked dual core (which would be Intel), would be best for GAMING. If you're on a budget, an AMD dual core will probably suit you better.

Intel quads are, unless you have a real reason for a quad (video editing, folding, other multithreaded apps), rather useless. I only have one (well, two) because I fold, benchmark like mad, and run a small server off my rig...well...rather I did and will when I build my new rig.

Exactly 45nm is a real great improvement over 65nm. Less volts used (less heat generally) and a fairly large performance gain (3Ghz E8400 ftw).

For gaming, Core 2 Duo wins by a mile.
In my eyes, AMD and Core 2 Duo performance is essentially the same, with the exception of AMD usually having lower clocks, and thus having lower prices.

i think intel quad core is the best. buy a cheaper one like the q6600 or 6800 and then overclock the heck out of it. youll be happy.

I bought a few months ago an intel Q6600 quadcore, and at this very moment had no issues. Also you have to got in mind in what motherboard is going to be running.

The CPU is not the only thing to look at, if you drop a fast CPU in a slow MoBo (bus speed, chipset), then it is not going to help you. Ditto for the memory. Building a system with performance depends on multiple factors, not only CPU. Personally I like Intel, since I work there, and know the output in quality (not saying AMD is bad, just have no experience with them).

Indeed, if your going to go get a CPU you need a fast mobo, and try to get dual channel ram.

theres several good opinions here, prior to multi core proscessors, amd beat intel hands down, intel was mainly built for word proscessing, for the stand alone proscessors, and amd was always built for gaming purposes because of their greater FSB, (my mom always hated me saying that since she's been working there for over 8 years) however since intel 1st started making multi cores, they reaised that they need to focus more on the gaming community, and have since provided faster thruput proscessors, while keeping heat issues down, and MOST ALL of their proscessors have been unlocked, unlike a good portion of AMD's (the multipiller) i've always been an AMD man, but i'm in the proscess of building a new rig, and intel has earned the right for me to give them a chance

The multiplier is unlocked to an extent....you can lower it and raise the FSB, but only the Extreme processors allow you to raise the multiplier over the stock number...unless you have an Engineering Sample like me

if you want to buy a quad core it is better to buy something witch is running over 3.0Ghz.The new video cards need a cpu witch is running over that speed(3.0Ghz).

lool intels dont crash. its a cpu, it either works or it doesnt. if it doesnt work, you destroyed your cpu, its not intel's fault. amd makes nice stuff, but doesnt compete well with many of intel's chips. especially popular chips like the Q6600 and Q6800.

Well AMD vs Intel, a couple of months ago I was trying to burn out my P4 and couldn't do it, the temp was at 109 C and it wouldn't die, I tried doing that on an AMD athlon 3000 and it burnt itself out at 90C
