Heat warnings.

Ok this problem has been popping up on me for some time now. I have my computer set to buzz whenever the processor reaches 55c, and shut off at 65c. Currently while playing some games which should not be causing this, I get these heat warnings.

System specs.

Asus Mobo (forget specs on it)
Socket AM2 AMD Athalon X2 6000+ 3.2 ghz DC Brisband.
2x EVGA Nvidia 8600 Gt. 512 GDDR2
4x 1gig of Kingston ram
And 2 hard drives, an older 32 gig 10,000 rdm raptor, and a 500 gig SATA storage drive.
No overclocking (including no factory OC) on anything I am running.

So far I have ran several spyware checks, done a complete registry scan (1 error pertaining to realplayer), Ran Hijack this, found 1 file, and basically restarted the whole process once I removed the malicious programs. After that I was still getting heat warnings, so I reseated the processor, replaced the heatsink and fan with a new one. Thoroughly cleans my case out for dust and dead bugs. Removed the battery on my motherboard and put it back in. Then did a bios update through my MOBO manufacturer.

After still getting these problems, I went into my Nvidia control panel and set every single game's settings to the video card. Now, the problem is still occurring when I am playing TF2, INS, and even FFXI.

If anyone has any suggestions as to how this can be fixed, I am all ears. Oh and please don't suggest water cooling, water cooling really is not needed for any non OC system.
 
I had this happen on my old prescott 3.0Ghz P4. One day it just started randomly and sharply overheating. It was a while ago, so I don't remember exactly what was the problem, but I think it was something weird to do with my ram. Try running memtest86??

Those GTs can pump out a good deal of heat, and so can the raptor, you could try running it with the case open?

Aside from, that try clearing the CMOS. (some bios updates do not do this)

And, if non of the above works, try underclocking the CPU.
 
When you were messing with the processor, you DID use thermal paste, right?

I have a raidmax katana (the one with the 300mm fan) the front never stays closed.

I cleared the CMOS when I updated the bios, thanks. Wouldn't underclocking the Processor make the matter worse? The processor would then have to use more power to do the simple tasks. Or am I mistaken?

I have not ran a memtest yet, thank you. I will go do that now then see if I can replicate the problem.
 
Try running a game with your case open, and maybe a fan blowing in to it..
See if it still comes up, theres no way your computer should be hot enough to cause heat warnings with the side off and a fan circulating air. I'm not talking a small computer fan, I mean something that you'd like sleep with in the summer time.
 
If any drives are running on IDE cables then this can cause obstructions in the air flow, you can also have problems if your case isn't pulling air in from the front and expelling from the back. If you have any blanking plates off the back it can also disrupt air flow. Just for Lolz just check that the CPU fan is spinning. The case front might be the problem close it and check it.
 
Oh, also... maybe your CPU/Mobo thermometer has wacked out?

In the motherboards/cases I've used, if I take off the back of the case and touch the tips of the standoff screws that are near the CPU, they are almost too hot to touch when the CPU hits 70C.

So, maybe you aren't getting any hotter. *shrug* What does the bios say about the idle temps?
 
Idle right now, 32c on processor , 46 on top VC and 44 on bottom. It only happens while playing games.

...could it be my Direct X settings?
 
I finally figured out the problem. Apparently there was a virus embedded inside of my one of my games. (mmorpg) It is the kind that attempts to steal your account. It was not detected because it only runs when you are on a game. Since I play games in windowed mode, I just ran hijack this while inside of that particular game and it found it. Thanks for all your help guys, really appreciate it.
 
How does a virus make your computer overheat is my question? Even under 24/7 100% load on CPU and video card your comp shouldn't over heat... at least not if it's cooled properly...
 
Well see thats the thing, my computer can't overheat lol. I have the heat warning set so low that it goes off under abnormal stress. Socket AM2 can handle up to 70c temperatures and still be functional (although I would never recommend anyone try it) and my computer is set to shut off at 60c. The warning is at 55c. Which you can only reach in my system if something is running in the background while playing a game, or is there is a problem with registry, memory, or just simple hardware malfunctions. I basically have my computer set up to warn me when something is wrong...the hard part is figuring out what is wrong lol.
 
thats nothing my Intel Pentium 4 gets up to 60C-90C
When it gets up to 80C I turn it off
I have 2 fans on it but it still does that :P
 
It cant cause it, but it can mess up with temperature monitoring programs making those programs think like 60c instead of 40c
