Increase Internet Connection!

I got a trick that works for me to increase your internet surfing and connection speed.

1) Go into your "START MENU".
2) Click on "ALL PROGRAMS".
3) Click on "ACCESSORIES".
4) Click on "COMMAND PROMPT".

When the command prompt screen appears type in: ipconfig/flushdns

Then, re-start your computer.


This will flush out your "INTERNET CACHE" safely. Now your internet surfing should be a lot faster. You also will notice better ping performance while online gaming.

You should perform this task once-a-month. If your like me; who turns off their computer before going to bed or when it's not in use, you can run the cache flushing program before shutting down your system. Then the next time you re-boot, you'll be already set to go.

Another important thing to do to help in speeding up your conneciton and file access is to run a defrag program at least once-a-month.

I hope these two tips help you out.

Well... kind of. This will flush the dns tables and will help if you're having trouble getting to web sites and such. In fact, if you're having a lot of trouble and this resolves it, you may want to consider disabling the dns caching service all together. The command, however, takes effect immediately and does not require a restart.

Another important thing to do to help in speeding up your conneciton and file access is to run a defrag program at least once-a-month.

This really doesn't matter as much as it used to - with ntfs under windows xp/vista the files are journalled regularly for speed of access. If, however, you uninstall/reinstall programs often, you should probably defrag your drive every few months.

Once a month is overkill (and can easily kill off a whole day of gaming with the huge drives we have now)

One more thing, since I'm a 43 year old noob, I'm still having problems finding the eGO toolbar. I go to the search and type in toolbar and I still can't find it.

Will someone find me on vent, take me by the hand and show me where's the down load link at?

Uhh, well computers do flush the DNS automatically when they shutdown.

Ehhh...I don't believe that's true. /flushdns flushes the DNS tables so that your computer receives a new IP for the TARGET location, not your computer. Not sure if that's what you meant or not.

ipconfig /release and /renew are for getting a new IP for both dynamic and static connections.

And my days working in IT come flooding back (*shudder*)...someone remind me to never work in IT ever again.

You can also do this by right clicking the icon on your task bar that has the 2 monitors and clickign repair..
