Sudden Drop in Server Population?

Hey all,

I've been seeing this quite a lot recently, A few weeks ago at about 4 PM (GMT) the servers would have at least 4-5 Packed...now the only ones that ever seem to be used is 2Fort and Dustbowl. I dont really mind 2Fort or dustbowl, but I prefer the payload maps so much more, but they never seem to be used :(

Has anyone else been noticeing this?
 
This is common. You need to remember most people are working or at school. During the summer, everyone is off, so the servers are filled. I would imagine the servers getting real full soon, due to winter breaks.
 
Also don't forget we are now at the very beginning of the new release season (TF2 was a year ago yeah! =) So I'm sure that's dragging some away from TF2 as well. Everything ebbs and flows.

This is called the "Sad Times" in the Gaming World. Followed by the "Better Times" of the cold dark winter and the "Happy Times" of the hot hot summer.

But, this is traditionally the slowest time for servers everywhere.
 
its probably holidays or something and im guessing people work at halloween stores so who knows
 
Also, the economy is having issues where this could be playing a part in people spending more time ensuring they are keeping their job instead of playing games. With the winter coming up I notice a lot of players come back for winter break.
 
School, with homework and studying is definitely a big reason. New games are also coming out, I'm sure people have consoles as well as their PC, games like Fable 2 and LittleBigPlanet just came out, for starters.
 
As JohnT said it happens around this time.
We just have to deal with it now, and work hard during the winter to fill them up, and get our ranks up.
 
Yea, this is very typical. Don't worry bud, come winter break, the pl servers will fill up, and i will be there too. ;)
 
It is the middle of October... midterm time at schools... give it a week or so and it will pick back up... Black mesa has been jumping in the last week or so... very cool to see it so popular now!
 
Definitely rough times. I hardly to get to play much anymore. I've been slammed at work. :(
 
As it stands, the PL rotation is full. Instant 2fort full. Blackmesa and Warpath have about 15-20.. And it's only 12:15pm est. =P

You forgot the "Kelp Times" of the entire year.
 
i dont paly as m uch either but when anyone has time theyll play dont worry people still play though
 
Come on guys, its nearing December. Its also exam season for me and probably hundreds of other people missing on the servers. We'll be back soon... at least around Christmas! I'm excited!

I still haven't bought my g/f a birthday gift, lots of stuff going on... tons of holidays. Halloween, Veterans day, Election day, and Thanksgiving are just the beginning...

Actually, blackmesa is picking up on several servers now. we had 3 full at one time a few days ago..this may end being a "sleeper" map.

Yeah, the big issue is most likely because it's the big release season of games. L4D is coming soon, and I know I was gone from my buddies on Blackmesa for a week when Dead Space came out because I was playing through it devotely. It'll happen when major releases hit, a lot of us aren't just competitive players but normal gamers waiting for a lot of things.

I know when Fallout 3 comes I'll probably be gone for a solid month or so, lol.
