So i've been hearing alot of buzz about the Source mod Insurgency. Seems to be a modern day combat shooter (i haven't played it yet). To me, that just sounds like another CoD4. What's the fun of it? Somebody convince me.

It's a free game. There isn't really any need to convince you just download it and see if you like it. Also saying that just because its a modern day shooter makes it sound like COD4, isn't good. That is like saying all WWII shooters are created equal or all RPGs that take place in a fantasy realm are the same.

Anyway, the combat is more realistic than COD4. You can't take 10 rounds and expect to live. You are lucky to survive one round to anywhere on your body. Also more team work is required.

As Sexy said it is very realistic. I really enjoy the game and love the strategy required to win. The only annoyance I have is not knowing where your death came from. Although that can be pretty realistic!

Its not like COD4 , you cant just run around like CS and expect to not get your cap peeled back. You really do have to think about your next move because if you dont there could be a guy behind the doorway with a shotgun that'll take your head off. As for "realistic" , it can be. There is allot of team play involved considering that you have different classes to accomplish a job or task. If you dont have good communication some of the maps are almost impossible. I'd compare it more to DoD than CoD O_o , its an objective based game with modern weaponry. Thats my take on it.

its very realistic and u need allot off team work objectives and a great leader really changes a lose into a win.

It's too realistic for me as I'm sure it is for others as well. When I try playing it I never seem to have much fun. If anything it makes me mad lol. I'm not trying to knock anybody when I say this but one thing that really irks me is there's always somebody on your team who talks non-stop on the mic trying to boss you around. Yes, I know it's all part of the realism and that on the battlefield you're going to have somebody telling you what to do but it's a game and I don't appreciate people trying to order me around. There's a difference between telling people what to do and suggesting what to do.

I just wanted to add this. I am 100% behind Edge Gamers Organiztion supporting this game! I'm glad it's becoming really popular :)

If you have ever played bunny hop 2 (battlefield 2) think in that premise, accept you cant just run across the street jumping and expect to live. There is realism to the game in many areas. You can shoot through certain doors/buildings. (wooden or thin tin metal) You have several different tools to use beside your gun. IE shellshocking a group inside of a house (killing a few), throwing in smoke, then supressing the house so your team can advance. There is no rambo mentality in this game. The only times in this game that 1 man can take out 10-15 people is if he is in a good position, he simply came up behind and wasn't seen, or he simply gets lucky. I would say try it out. If you don't like it, uninstall and never look back :)

I don't like it very much. I get that its supposed to be realistic and becuase of that the HUD sucks, but with so little information displayed I think it hurts the game. Oh, and unless you know the maps, you'll get killed a lot by people who do and just know good places to camp.

It's free, so you may as well give it a try, but I don't think it's a very good game.

I think its not interesting, take a long time to experience, and... Well, you kinda have to get used to getting shot once or twice dying.

I've played it for about a hour this past sunday and I find it pretty boring. If you ever played Battlefield 2, just imagine that game but not as good.

Yeah sorry, not so good explaining things.

If your easily discouraged, you probably won't like it. If you are willing to spend the time to get used to it & you like realism - it's fantastic!

lol its no where near the same as BF2 , you either love it or hate it , theres no in between

Yeah... Insurgency is one of those games that you have to get into a groove to do well.

Generally it sucks when for the first hour or two of playing a game you go "WTF?!?" (not on the mic of course) because you die after only 20 seconds... Buuuuut... It gets a lot better. I understand that most people don't like to play a game where you have to get into it, but it's the learning curve. And after a while of playing it, you get this weird semi-paranoid way of playing. Apparently that's what is successful, at least for me.

The main thing is, if you get spotted/hit you're dead... But if the other player gets spotted/hit they're dead almost immediately. It balances out.

As for why people think it's fun? Well... If you're on a team with people who don't just go solo/commando then there's a lot of fun to be had. Safety and fun in numbers I suppose.

it is a very team based game , communication , cooperation , and coordination are key factors in winning in {INS}. If your about your own score and frags then the game wont be fun to you , sometimes you have to think about the bigger goal which is to win the round. I've found myself sacrificing myself to breach a room or to get my team across a road.

Well it's still pretty good for a free mod don't you think?

Hell yes!

Since it is a mod, and not a game..

It's pretty awesome for a mod. I played it like the third day it came out (before all of the good graphics you see today, back when the game was really choppy and only had 3 servers out for it). The game has much improved.

However, I find it hard to play for longer than thirty minutes, not because it is a bad game, it's just because it very very repetitive and plus I have TF2. It's like why play this when I can play a game that I payed for?

I support Sixxgunn and Sarge 100% on this. I also congratulate them on number one spot on game tracker.

Download the game if you want to experience it, don't let others' opinions stop you from trying the game. It's free to try, and you don't lose anything,
