So I'm in the Artillery which you may tell by the crest as my avatar. Our Battery Commander (a Major) decided to do a recce ex to hone our basic soldiering and infantry skills. The day started by raining, 3 degrees celius, and setting up Artic tents, filling mags etc. The first patrol was a true recce patrol walking through the bush only using hand signals with map/compass to get us to our objective. That went well except walking through the knee-deep swamps and marshes... seal skin socks are priceless.
The next patrol was a fighting patrol and took place during the night while it was dark. The objective was a tower held by the enemy force. We had 1 group of the patrol go around the flank and our group went front on. However, the guy leading us wasn't very experienced and we were atleast 200m off the objective.
So....
I began to run full speed to take cover behind another compound and little did I know... there was a complete 3 foot deep swamp between myself and the building. I had the radio on my back and did a complete bellyflop into the water. I pulled the rifle out and it was covered in weeds, I was soaked head to toe and it was 10pm at -5 degrees celius.. needless to say, I was very cold until we finished the patrol.
Just another day in the corps fellas.. =]
