q6600 and 4870x2

so is a q6600 quad core and a 4870x2 graphics card goin to work really well together for a long time??

Depends on what you mean by a long time.

Don't go cheap on the other parts and you'll be sitting pretty for a while.

It'll work fine for a while, but you might want to go with a Q9___ series quad core as they are supposedly more advanced.

If you don't OC the q660, its not really going to cut it. Most programs right now still run mostly on one or two cores, despite what they claim, and 2.4Ghz per core isn't a whole lot when you think about it. But, a q6600 can reach 3Ghz pretty safely on non-stock air cooling.

I recommend the Q9550. It's only $300 now at my local retailer. It's at 2.8 GHz so I'm sure you can easily overclock it to 3.2 GHz.

The 4870x2 will do you fine for a long while. Unless you're hell bent on maxing Crysis at 1920x1200 that is...

TF2, CS:S, COD4...you won't have a problem.

yeah they will run well together. although if you are set on getting a LGA775, i would wait another month, cause they will drop HUGE when the new core (Core i7) comes out. the $300 quads will be in the low $200-220 range, or possibly even lower

They already lowered the Q6600 and the Q6700 prices. Just check daily on Engadget and Tom's Hardware and you'll find out.
