hl2.exe has stopped working. Why?

So when I launch TF2, 4o% of the time it stops responding and shuts down, and I get a popup saying that hl2.exe has stopped working and Microsoft is searching for a solution before it closes out. Anyone know what is going on and how I might be able to fix it?

I'm running TF2 in windows btw, and I have Vista 64-bit edition.

I get this Almost everytime i play for a extended periods of time, or if i switch between games.

Before you start up you game, right click on the name, go to properties, set launch options, and put in "-novid" click okay and start the game.

That might help.

I had that Error when my firewall (COMODO) was refusing to allow hl2.exe to the internet and crashed.. so i uninstalled comodo

I already have novid set up, and I dont have comodo.

If anyone else has ideas please post?

Pinning it to your exact issue can be difficult but at least here's a starting place.

A reinstall will fix it I'm sure.
