Fallout 3 reviews are in!

I just read IGN's 5 page review and will check out the video review probably tomorrow.

Looks great, hope it arrives early enough tomorrow that I can make it out of the vault before work!

Fallout 3 contains an enormous amount of characters, each presenting a satisfying number of dialogue paths and quest twists. It's a mind-boggling piece of work when examined as a whole. It can make for some mind-boggling decisions when playing, as well. Save-loaders are going to have a difficult time with this game--those players who can't resist exploring every branch of every quest may find themselves torn, reloading the game repeatedly to take a different path.

   I really can't wait to play this. :)

Ill be playing this in about a day once im done dl-ing it :D

see you guys in game ^^

It would seem the game is getting many good reviews, I look forward to seeing whats going on with it.

Freak!!! :p Same here, just got back from picking up my Fallout 3 CE copy.

My eGO hoodie kept me nice and warm, while I went out to pick it up. It's cold here this morning. :)

Apparently Fallout 3 feels that I need to be set to Ultra settings, and Im not going to disagree with it... took a little tweaking, but so far, runs well and stepping out of the vault that first time was really something to see.

I have some slight mouse lag, but I think I just need to optimize my system and the game a bit and I should be good to go. The story seems good, the environment is very nice and detailed. As was said in some of the reviews, the character animations arent very good and Bethesda still hasnt seem to figured out how to get the lips to sync with talking.

By the way, VATS is very cool, and seems like itll be real fun to use and wont get old... now I just need to pick up some better weapons and start blowing some limbs off!

So far so good, looking forward to a nice long gaming experience... now i just gotta figure out how to divide my free time between this and Far Cry 2...

I played about 6 hours last night, it was awesome in every way. harder than I thought, I kept getting attacked by random crazy animals and had very little ammo. The health/xp system is awesome and I can't wait to get some cool weapons. It is very open ended. I did a mission for a guy then after it was done, I killed him and took his shiny nice weapon. That's all I will say. But it ran great and played even better. It does take lots of time, which I don't have alot of, so I will be playing for months I am sure.

i only got to play about an hour or so but it was fun, and addicting. i also have farcry 2 which seems to take a lot of time. i cant wait to see more, im only at the escape part so i havent even seen the tip of the iceberg....cant wait to get home from work

I picked up my copy just now, but I'm at work ><

They carded me to purchase the game on account of the "Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Sexual Themes, Strong Language and Use of Drugs."

I'm 27... wtf. If I'm being carded for a game I guess it's high time I grew a moustache (again)!

dling now from steam hooray!

i am also at a junction betweenallocating time for this and FC2, darn you college classes! *shakes fist*

This game is amazing. I've put 7 hours into yesterday (bought the Collectors Edition) and now I'm stuck at work just waiting to get back to it :(.

It's honestly the best single player game I've played in YEARS. Everything you do matters/has an effect on the story line. The world is HUGE and there is almost to much to do that you don't know where to start(that's a good thing btw).

As for the only legit complaint people have for this game. The fact that the facial features when talking to someone aren't that great. IT DOESN'T MATTER imo. You are playing an RPG after all, it's the story and the dialog that matter. Plus the majority of the time I'm talking to someone my focus is on the captions not the face. I can read the captions faster than the NPC is saying it(even though the voice acting is great).

Again, one of the best games I've ever played. Get it if you haven't got it already.

I'm liking it too.

Some of the mouse response feels a bit sluggish, which combined with slightly hyper enemies means FPS combat feels kinda rough, but with VATS there, it hasn't been a huge problem (is anyone else spending a TON of combat time in VATS?)

It's also the first RPG in forever who's alignment system actually recognizes that walking into people's houses and looking all their stuff isn't really a nice thing to do.

I will say though, that some of the animations, especially of your character in the third person view, suck donkey ass. The fact that both the terrain and the characters look so good just make it that much more obvious that your character model floats along with next to no connection to the terrain. Though the solution to that though is to stick to FPS mode.

The combat is doing it for me in ways I hadn't expected though. It remained fun even after trying to clear the Superduper Mart for the third or fourth time trying to get it right, and that's something that normally kills games for me. Quick painless quicksaves/loads helps a lot. Loading screens are pretty minimal as these things go.

My only big disappointment though, is something Wired's Game|Life review mentioned and I can't shake now that I see it: It's just not funny. Which on the one hand makes sense (it's the end of the world after all), but the old Fallouts had a balance between the Nuclear Apocalypse, and a sense of the absurd. I just can't see, say, some of the random encounters from the original games in this one. Even the opening dialogue seemed a bit overwrought, and maybe that's an inevitable side effect of having the world more revealed now than the first game, or that this isn't the old dev team, but it's still present.

That complaint said, my first impression is that it's still by far one of the best action/rpgs to come along in ages. Even if it's not Fallout or Fallout 2, I totally don't regret shelling out for the game or making time in my schedule for it.

Raider Blastmaster Helmet - check

Shotgun - check

Flamethrower - not yet :(

Fire ax- might not exist in game :(

Pyromaniac

Ranks: 1
Requirements: Explosives 60+

Inflict 50% more damage with fire-based weapons.

So close....But yes, the game is pretty good.
