Hay guys i am planning on buying TF2 tonight and i was wondering what class should i focus on starting to learn first? I have seen people say they started with Engineer but is that the best route? What are your thoughts?

pyro is kinda easy, its mostly just spamming flames. and soldier is okay too, but that takes a little practice.

I don't really think it matters, as they're all fairly unique. Some classes have a bit more of an aggravation factor to them, as you're more likely to die. I think you should try playing all of them (and hey, if you play each class in a single round, that's an achievement!)

Play them all, then whatever you like best, or do best with...focus on that class. The reason I love TF2 is cause you can always switch if you are aggravated, or if you get sick of playing the same class.

Some thoughts to first classes, scout, soldier, engineer

Pick the class that appeals to you and your personality.i played 5 different classes when i 1st started, Soldier, Demo, Pyro, Heavy and Engineer. Just experiment and see what kind of playing style you'd like to do in TF2.

Scout? Scout is one of the most difficult classes to play fairly well and/or effective, especially with all these sentrynests.
I'd say try soldier, pyro and heavy first. Soldier is pretty much the most basic class. It's good in any situation. Pyro has a different mindset than soldier but is quite effective in any situation, thanks to the pyro update now, too. Heavy is pretty much a slower soldier with the lovely Sasha instead of a rocket launcher.

I agree. Soldier, pyro, then heavy, then whatever you want. I tend to stick with pyro, as im a pyrotecniholic. I love playing with fire. :D

Engineer can be a bit boring at times, especially if you are new.

I'd actually recommend playing Medic for your first time. Just heal some of the top scorers that are on your team (hit tab to see the scoreboard). Also Heavies are good Medic buddies.

The reason I say medic is because since you're new, you're not gonna know any of the maps. Healing someone and following them around is a good way to learn the map. Also it's a good way to watch other skilled players and learn how they're playing that class, etc.

Oh and I'll give you a tip that will make your life easier as a Medic:

On the main menu, go to Options -> Multiplayer Tab -> Advanced -> Click on the box that says Medigun continues healing without hold the fire button.

It's nice because you just have to click on a teammate once and you'll keep healing them - it'll save you from many a cramp finger :D

But most of all try to remember that this is a team based game. So try not to worry about your score, or kill death ratio. You will have a lot more fun that way. Hope to see you out there in the servers!

Pyro is easy, but hes also the worst by far. A skilled player will destroy most pyro's.

Try medic/demoman for starts.

I like the soldier, because that's mostly spamming rockets, or medic, that's easy too once you get The Blitzkrieg & The Bluttsauger.

WOW i just got done playing my first game of TF2 and its awesome thanks guys!

Definetly play all of them, some will come more naturally than others, for all we know you could be the best sniper or spy or whatever the game has ever had! :P

Learn soldier, then engineer. Without a doubt these are two of the fundamental tf2 classes. You cannot have effective offense without a soldier or effective defense without engineers. Medic would be another good one. Even if you're a horrible medic, you're still helping your team.

just practice them all start them of like 10 minutes each class and whichever one you are comfortable play that class but i always switch of with spy and sniper

Definitely start with soldier, learn to rocket jump and learn the maps you like (also jump and shoot a lot to get better trajectory). Then span out from there. Once you know the maps and what is needed for the team, you will have a much more educated chance of playing other classes well. Soldier is the easiest to pick up and play decent. To be good with the other classes, knowing the maps will help a lot, and then seeing how others play those classes on the maps will allow you to be effective.

What's Blitzkrieg & Bultsauger?
Blitzkrieg means lighting war, but I think your getting confused with the kritzkreig.

They are upgrades for the medic, the blutsauger (blood sucker) gives you 3 health per hit and is the first achievement unlock.
The second one which is the kritzkrieg(Crit War), which gives the person you are healing pure crits instead of being invulnerable.

The blutsauger is generally better for combat, it may not crit but you might be on low health nad the blutsauger will nicely bring you up to a resonable figure while your looking for health.

The kritzkreig really does depend on the map and where you are. In a tight corridor and you are healing a soldier you would really want the kritzkreig, it would wipe out what's in front of you, without you being invulnerable. The normal ubergun is better for taking down sentries

Engineer is a bit easy, becuase you mostly built something and defend it for the rest of the round. So you should try learn the hardest class maybe first?

In the long run, Demo and Soldier will help you a lot more than Pyro ever would. (Pyro's are ineffective against a decent Demo/Soldier, and they're the easiest class to play IMO).

I started out as a scout (because I loved his melee stuff), then Engineer, I saw how boring it is to start out with him if you have to stay in one spot being a defense, so I probably turned into a offense Engineer, than soldier because of his Rocket jumps and stuff, Demoman, Pyro, Spy and etc.
