It's a lesson in target fixation. It's a key to safe driving, bicycling, and motorcycling, so I assume that it's a key to flying a fighter jet as well.
The idea is to "see the opportunity, not the obstacle." For example, in driving you should see the off ramp off to your right, not the semi truck headed towards you at 65 in your lane. If you fixate on the semi, you're not going to dodge it. If your focus is on the off ramp, you will probably avoid the semi.
Try it on this game. First focus on the blue shapes and try to avoid them. Then, after you have done that, focus on the white space, and just try to keep the red square in that. The game gets MUCH easier.
