Your opinions on L4D

Well Ive only played the demo so far, but in a nutshell, it seems like it would be fun for a while then get kinda boring.

QFT

I played with some friends and granted, its only two levels, but it is repetitive. After the first run through and then seeing how far we could get on expert, it got boring. It felt like Far Cry 2 in that respect. :o

If there's an overall story and some incentive to get to the end I might buy it but I have to wait until people get the real copy before i can find out.

I don't see how the game gets repetitive. The AI director changes many aspects of the game every time you play. Sure it may only have up to 20 changes or so but I don't notice if I am killing hordes of zombies. The level itself I can understand but I say you are paying to much attention to the level than enjoying the game. I am pretty sure Valve will be release updates for the game because their updates for TF2 have stopped until 2009. With the way the game is setup with chapters it shows signs up easy updates to the story. I will be picking up the game from day one. I have been waiting for it for the past year or so. I do enjoy ZPS but this is entirely better and nothing like it since. There are other zombie games but nothing like this. I hope you all get it when you want and see you in game.

Although I did get bored by the demo amazingly quickly, I wonder how restricted the "demo" is. Perhaps if the full game allowed for a much larger variety of weapons, special enemies, more complex levels, and other stuff I can't imagine I would be willing to buy it.

So..... I'll wait for you guys to buy it and tell me how it is ;)

Yeah the demo didn't seem to have too much depth to it. I still have fun playing it though. After 13 months of playing TF2 I'm looking forward to something else to play.

One thing that made me laugh when I was playing last night was nobody wanted to go first. They all waited for me to take the lead!

I played the demo a few times last night after waiting over an hour for it to download completely.

My first impression was horrible but I blamed it on being a demo. I joined a game then the director started the game. At the loading screen I kept getting an error saying it failed to connect after retrying 10 times. So I went to the main screen and just selected "Join a game in progress".

My second impression is much better. I yelled for my brother to come watch and it was awesome. We worked our way through the subway, killed the tank in a fairly epic battle (no level 2 weapons) and made our way to the final escape room.

the zombies attack fast and you have a fairly decent chance of surviving if two things happen:

1. Your teammates don't shoot you and you don't shoot them.
2. Use the push back action to keep the hordes off of you.

The game is fun, the dialogue, though slightly repetitive, is fun. I am on the fence about purchasing it honestly. $45 or $50 for it seems overkill when ZPS is free and offers a similar experience. to be honest when I was play L4D last night I kept hitting "E" on items laying around because I wanted them as weapons. I would like that option in the final game. I also think that having random maps generated for each level would be amazing for this game. Keep it fresh.

It will not overtake TF2, CSS or DODS as the multiplayer games of choice but it is fun.

I am putting it in the "wait and see" column.

this game is everything i dreamed it would be six months ago. the thing i love the most is it almost seems as if the AI Director is actually listening to you guys speak. i cant tell you how many times i said "ok we're safe, heal up" then get completely enilated by the horde with some help by a witch. I kinda get Legend's opinion. but i think the demo is not worth 50 the game is way better

Really not sure how I feel about it.

I enjoyed the 2 levels...

Just don't know if its something that would hold my attention that long. I've no doubt the full game will be much better, but I just can't see myself itching to get home from work to play it.

Maybe once the price comes down

I think one thing that will make or break this game is who you play with. This game will be tons of fun if you play with people you know.

You know The Shape really hits this on the head. For those of you that didnt have a brilliant experience, play with someone else next time. I have had some excellent games of it so far and thats all down to the awesome peeps I have been playing with. Last night I laughed so much I was crying and my sides ached we had so much fun.

I am unsure to the longevity of the game in some aspects..although I have spent some 13 odd hours on this already and its just the demo (I pre-purchased) I can tell you , I have never ever had this much fun from a demo.

I wont be forgetting about tf2 with this game, but I do love the team work thats needed and I am really looking forward to having the rest of the map/s, weapons ect..its going to be a good goto game when you need a break or you just want to play something else.

As for those of you that cant run it and like zombie games.. I do recommend zombie panic source. If you like team work the ZPO maps (objective maps) are very fun to do, one of the most popular is biotec so you should check those out. However I do suggest you play with a couple of people you know.

I love this game, and the full is going to be awesome. And by playing L4D on Easy or Normal, it will get boring really fast. Rather try expert ;)

I stood up from the computer, completely shaking after the demo. AWESOME GAME!

I really wish I hadn't bought Far Cry 2 now...

I'm getting the demo on my xbox this weekend. Looking forward to trying it out.

Seems like in the most recent patch, they upped the difficulty of how hard Advanced and Extreme were. While they were originally quite difficult, my group (barring any "misfires" at cars) was able to clear the unlisted "Impossible" difficulty in about 30 minutes or so. While over only 2 levels this may seem a challenge, try spreading that over the entire campaign. Insanity. I relish in it.

While you may think the game isn't worth $50, they will be doing with it what they did with TF2. Constant content updates in the form of more achievements, more weapons, more maps, more game modes. Valve will definitely start moving it away from a A->B type game and I forsee escort/rescue missions. Possibly even vehicles. The great thing about this new engine is how much potential it has. Once Valves programmers explore it more, they will bust this game wide open. If you want to wait for a price drop, that is more than fine, but you may be waiting for a while. Valve will definitely be throwing out content to help justify the price.

Also, don't forget the additional gameplay mode that we have yet to even explore. The Vs. portion of the game will be a whole nother can of worms. When you have bosses controlled by human players who understand ambush and tactics and timing better than an AI... I'm looking forward to this.

You know this game shoves suspense down your throat when you have about 500 or so Zombies attacking you at once, and all you have to fend them off is a mere pistol.

Now I want this game even more. =D

Honestly I think the game rocks, I had so much fun playing it. Online will be great too.

The demo was fun...do I have $50 to drop on it atm? Not really...

Christmas :)

Edit: Interesting tidbit, L4D demo currently has the second most players playing atm. Behind CSS. I don't know if it's because it's late, but kind of funny that a demo is the second most played game on Steam :P

i like playing expert, i am going to by it, or Christmas

I had an awesome experience last night. I joined a game in progress and got to be Louis. YAY! I asked over voice chat which difficulty it was set at it and the leader said Advanced. Well it was not advanced and we were getting pwned every corner. Somehow he figured out it was expert! But we did well. We used team work, voice chat when necessary and, shocker, the people on the front lines actually ducked when firing so those of us behind them could shoot over them!

We did not beat the level but we made it almost to the last room. If only I could get them to use the shove more often! I am thinking more seriously of purchasing this game now.
