Drum Roll Please...

OMG I WANT IT!!!!!!!!!

Off to buy lottery tickets :)

OH wow! DDR 3 has come down quite a lot. I remember about 6 months ago you would have to sell half your liver to be able to afford it.

Also, about half that processor... AMD invented. It will be interesting to see if AMDs new processor still only competes in the Server/Workstation area or if the will be able to bridge the gap in the Desktop market. So far they are back to face palming Intel in server apps... so at least that is good.

well mabey another 600 cause of +100 to board +300 to gave 12gigs of gddr3 :D and +100 for the cpu

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I changed my build as well. I added myself another $400 also

I dont know anything about i7 cores and why they are so good.

But why buy something when you have something that is able to run the same game fine.. it doesnt need to be better if its already good.

Because we are tech geeks, and tech geeks LOVE to be on the bleeding edge of everything :-) Because even though not all the numbers work out to real-world increases, the benchmarks are soooooo hot. And...because we can :-) That's like asking a car guy why he wants 5 more horsepower out of his engine...because he can.

Like trykael said. It's not about "If I can run the game ok", its that its something new and thats our hobby. We love to look at reviews, benchmarks, hardware, and building of course! I mean sure my machine can run any game out there and I probably wouldnt need to build a new machine for a while but wheres the fun in that? Why would you even say something like that Volcom?!?! Thought you where into that stuff too O_O

Here i just got a few questions for you volcom...

Lian Li PC-P80
^^ why such an expensive case, when you could just use a cheaper one because the case doesnt alter performance?

Intel E8400 3.0 GHz @ 4.2 GHz Stable
^^ why need to overclock the processor when at 3.0 you can run games just fine?

2x 9800 GTX+ SLi
^^ why have 2 9800 GTX's when 1 will do just fine running games?

1200 Watt CoolMax Power Supply
^^ why have 1200 Watt when about a 900W will do fine?

4x 2GB DDR2 800 Corsair XMS2 RAM
^^ 8GB RAM?!?! why, 4 or even 2 at sometimes will do just fine running games.

VelociRaptor 150 GB 10,000 RPM
^^ you dont need a velociraptor drive... its only a small increase from a SATA II 32MB cache drive

These are somethings you could think about before saying that you dont need to upgrade to a Core i7. :D

That line of thought my friend is why you will never be a tech geek.

I both envy and despise you. :D

I would like to set the record stright on the i7 i have 2 brand new systems the first is a Intel i7 920 air cooled with a P6t board with 2 x 4870x2 in crossfire 6 gig of ram and 2 WD V Raptors in Raid Zero and a X-Fi...

The second system is a i7 Extreme 965 Water cooled with the new Danger Den TDX Block I am useing the Koolance 1000 watt water system EXOS 2.5 to cool just the chip. The motherboard on this system is a Rampage 2 with the 3 way either SLi or Crossfire. i am running 3 280 in tri SLI on the Rampage.

I have 12 Gig of ram installed on this system along with 2 WD Raptors and using on board sound due to a tech problem with board ( I will get to that later) i have a LOT of fans also in there to cool it all down 8 in all ....

Now dont let anyone tell you the new i7 is a bad chip it blows away my 9770 chip I have sitting here now in just about every bench with EITHER chip !!!

The only Negatives i see with the new CPU are they run VERY hot !!

On the 920 with air 75 C is the norm at STOCK SPEEDS OUCH lol....

On the Water cooled systm Stock is about 58 C Load overclocked to 4.2 I can reach 80 to 83 C...

So if your going to get one of these GET WATER !!!! your gonna need it to overclock anywhere lol...

Ok the New Motherboards are fine HOWEVER the p6T ASUS is only a 2 SLI or 2 4870x2 system as the PCI-E slot at the end of the board gets covered by the Double slot big moma cards..

Now on the Rampage 2 board or the new Gigabyte boards ect the last slot on the mother board will not get covered BUT you need a 10 SLOT CASE to get it in a case and have some airflow. I use the Thermaltake Xaser 4 case with 10 slots its big and allows me to put two big fans on the bottom to cool the 280's cuz there is not near enough room for them to get air...

You also must have the 180 nvidia drivers to get SLI working and there is some bugs here and there but all in all it pretty nice..

Where the i7 Rocks is with SLi or Crossfire you will see 50 % improvment in frame rates and MORE with the new i7 chips...

My 920 is only 10 % slower them my 965 in most games as far as frame rate go's..so the 965 as always is only for the Hardcore person otherwise go for the 920 and overclock it to 3.8 and rock ....

The I7 is a fantastic chip HyperThreading is back and it works this time it is a good step forward for the computer world....

Well thats it for now I just hate when people come in with no idea of the chip bash it or prase it with out real time Exp with the chips and boards...

If any one has questions i can try to answer them as best i can on the i7 stuff I have been building computers for 20 years so i got a bit of Exp lol...

Hope this post helps some people....

Edit: I have been asked what rez I did my testing at I have a 30 inch Gateway I run at 2560 X 1600 and a Sharp 32 inch AQUOS? LC-32GP3U-R...I like the sharp for its very fast response time as I can at least get a few shots in at Soap, Kascade and Iceman before they kill me lol.....
