Limiting the Distance of Sounds?

Hey all, I wear headphones when I play and when I'm defending in a quiet place I try to use my ears to hear any spies or any other enemies coming, I find though that I can hear stuff waaaaaay far away and I was wondering if there was a way to limit the distance on what I can hear around me?

Thanks.

well i dont think you would really need to. if a spy were closer to you would he be louder than sound in the distance?

theres issues i have with sound, im not sure if its specific to black mesa or tf2 itself, but for example, when im in the vents in black mesa, i can hear people in A like they were right below me, often i think the sound is coming from the lower vents (to A, as compared to the upper vents, leading the C or L)

and I would say i have a spectacular sound sytem, $200 beyerdynamics, pro-studio quality, creative x-fi gamer, a small portable headphone amp (GoVibe)

I have this problem too. I will be over in front of the RED base on 2Fort, and I'll hear my BLU team in spawn using their flamethrowers like it was right behind me. Kinda annoying since I keep turning around to check for a pyro running at me.

Yeah, now that I think about it, it's just the game. I hear the cart pushing through a cart path in a tunnel when the cart is gone, like the tunnel just has some kinda sound generator of the cart haha... weird stuff.

I have the same thing in the intel room on well. Knowing Valve, there may very well be a sound-dropoff variable. But, I think it more likely a bug.

Heavies are the worst for this. I HATE heavies who stand at a dispenser and spam for this reason. Not only are they tanking everyone's fps while doing nothing, but I can't hear footsteps or water splashes thanks to them.
