I always wondered what the skill bonus is, does it add to your overall score or is it just a number? If there is a link somewhere on this forum where I can learn about HLX?, please link me :(. I am just bored and want to learn something new, lol.

I figured it out. It is as simple as it looks. Bonus skill adds to your overall score as it happens. That is why medics are able to have so many points without killing anyone.

It's not a skill bonus, really. A medic gets more points for an assist when they're healing someone than any other class gets simply by damaging.

I believe a medic's assist is worth 5 points, while any other assist is only worth 2. They did it this way to help the medics actually climb the ladders.

I was not trying to judge the point system or trying to say eh, medics don't deserve that. I was just using the medic as an example, to show there are more then 1 way to get point's then just killing people. And I refer to as a skill bonus because that is what hlx calls it :o.

Close :) Ubers are worth 5 points and medic assists are worth 4 points.

If you look at the points modifier below, you can see that medics and engineers get some extra help. One thing is missing from the list however, TP usage point is not listed there, but I have noticed you get 1 point if someone uses your TP.

Best formula to climb up the ladder is to play a CP map instead of CTF. Play medic or engineer, try not to die. Oh and killing the top players will help you climb faster than say killing newbies. So go hunt them down! From my experience, the Warpath server seems to have the higher ranking players on most of the time and is in constant need of battle medics and engies.

Ah, that's right... Also, for killing the people at the top (such as Expunged!), melee them if you can. The point modifier for the melee weapons are higher than pretty much anything else.

:)

O'rly? I always went on a melee spree because i thought it was just funny, Never knew they gave more points! :D

I looked at the equation on the FAQ link more closely and there was something wrong. The formula didn't work. Here is the correct formula:

Killer Points = Killer Points + [(Victim Points / Killer Points) ? Weapon Modifier ? 5]
Victim Points = Victim Points - [(Victim Points / Killer Points) ? Weapon Modifier ? 5]

Also note, that only weapon modifiers are counted, team rewards points such as building SGs, domination points etc are not counted towards your hlstatsx points. So someone using your TP will not help your stats (I originally thought it did), but will affect only your game points.

Just for fun, I'm really bored at work :p WrS using you as a reference

WrS (Sniper Kill) vs. Expunged: [(62,039/12,165) x 1 x 5] = 25 points
Expunged (Sniper Kill) vs. Wrs: [(12,165/62,039) x 1 x 5] = 0.9 barely a point!

WrS (Medic Uber Saw Kill) vs. Expunged: [(62,039/12,165) x 3.5 x 5] = 89 points
Expunged (Medic Uber Saw Kill) vs. WrS: [(12,165/62,039) x 3.5 x 5] = 3 measly points

Cool stuff :)

What's the cap on the points lost when you get killed? Because with just that raw equation, someone with ~2000 points (quite new), with an ubersaw kill, would nab 542.8 points off you, Ex. (And just any random person new to the server, but not the game, could easily do that.) Does it stop at 100?

Also: This is why I see Hlstats as entirely broken. If you're not playing with people high in the ladders, you're losing points unless you're pulling some 30:1 K/D streak. The only way my rank even budges upwards anymore is if I play on Blackmesa or some nights on Dustbowl.

I don't believe there is a point limit.

Agreed, there is just too much happening in TF2 and hlstatsx does not take that into account. In other words, your TF2 score is ignored entirely. So my previous comment about playing engies and medic may not help you! Assist kills are not part of the weapon points are completely ignored (or maybe I'm missing something here). The only way to get points would be to get a direct kill. I am probably wrong here and there is some other formula they are using which has not been revealed. One of the top players on the server is a medic with a crazy high score.

Yeah the system is a bit skewed. If you play on a high turnover server like 2fort, you have to play at 5:1 kpd to consistently increase your hlxstats score. There are just too many 2000 point new players farming 25-30 points off of you every death. If it weren't for other eGO members on 2fort, I'd be steadily dropping every day.

Actually you get points for more than just each kill. If you have a high kdr then you get bonus points beyond that. For instance, every time you get a double kill its an extra point and every time you get a killing streak of 10 kills in a life you gain 9 points plus points for each kill.

Not to mention there are minimums on what you can gain or lose. Even though the equation for expunged killing WrS comes out to being less than a whole point he would still gain two. He just needs to watch his back for the ubersaw.

On a side note, I've found the Black Mesa server to be crammed full of points from my perspective (a lot of 20 to 30 thousands) on several occasions. Warpath does in fact have more higher ranked people, but those I've found seem to really warrant those high rankings and are probably gaining.

Warpath has the most veterans, so if you want to pad your stats, play there. Dustbowl isn't bad either, especially for medics, demos, and engies. If you play spy, expect to lose points. If you play 2fort without a dedicated medic, expect to lose mega points.

Personally, I think the stats system is flawed. TF2 has an in-game points system for a reason, and the stats system deviates heavily by penalizing you for dying. A better solution would be your rank based on a points-per-minute modified by the rank of those you've killed.

ya hlx is kinda annoying at times. Once i didnt play for 3 weeks and when i came back on night i lost like 1000 points in like 30 minutes

ive always thought the skill bonus was just a way of keeping things balanced to be honest, it means the weaker/support classes climb the ladders with the stronger offensive classes xxx
