My 2 cents on the criteria for eGO

I recently find myself looking for a reason to respect some of the higher ranking members that I encounter other then rank, but sometimes to no avail I seem to fall short of that. Respect is earned by encounters with each and every individual , though some should be mutually expected, it seems as though once a person obtains the rank of O they tend to forget what got them there. I myself dont expect any sort of higher regard from other players because I am a G , I only do what is expected of me because I was placed in a position of responsibility. Some O's (names of which I will not divulge) seem to think it is their right to demand absolute respect to the fact that they are O's and that their rule is non negotiable or up for discussion, I myself think this is wrong. Just because another player is not of the same ranking as you does not make them any lesser and their thoughts and opinions should not fall on deaf ears. Last time I checked this wasnt the army or any derivative of such.

Now to get to the point ...

I feel that an eGO should represent the highest responsibility of the clan and should not be given out like fliers at the state fair. There should be many factors that determine the promotion of a player to that status , not just time in and popularity of the person within their social group. Not only should the rank of eGO be strictly governed to a select group , it should be strictly monitored. eGO should be something you earn every second you wear the tag in game or when you receive a message from a player requesting help. The rank should not just be given , you should have to accept it in front of a panel of council members as if being sworn in.

I was raised to believe strictly in the Marine Corps core values

Judgment, Justice, Dependability, Integrity, Decisiveness, Tact, Initiative, Endurance, Bearing, Unselfishness, Courage, Knowledge, Loyalty, Enthusiasm

and these values I feel should also be exemplified in the position of eGO

To clarify , I am in no way asking to be promoted , I am only stating how I feel about the position.

Thank you for reading

This doesn't just go for eGO's. This goes for the whole clan. If people aren't giving you the respect you deserve. Send your DL/Adivsor a pm and let them know whats going on.

If you don't speak up, nothing will get done. ;)

Very well said Garden. It is like a rule to treat everybody with respect in the clan.

Full admin is not given out like candy, its fairly hard to attain it even after 2+ years of being in existence. eGO's are taught that they are in command of the servers when they are present, sometimes that might come across as pushy or arrogant. All members of Edgegamers should treat others with respect regardless of rank or clan affiliation.

If someone acts like a jerk to you or another member (if you arent acting like an idiot), ask them to be polite in private chat. Everyone has bad days but if it is something that happens often and you can show proof (logs), let an advisor know whats going on with that person. I know that in all branches of the military you must respect rank regardless of the person wearing it, here it is the same except you CAN question another admins' actions JUST DONT DO IT IN PUBLIC.

Dont cause a scene, handle problems on the lowest levels in the chain of command (another policy used by the military). Sometimes we forget that this is a game and we are supposed to have fun playing said game. I try and respect everyone, clannie and pub alike until they dont respect me because then it gets ugly. The final question I ask is have you talked to the "ego's who I wont name" about this problem you have with them? If not then do so and if you do not get a satisfactory response, take it on up the chain of command.

As always eG's who are active in the forums and in game are the ones who will be promoted the fastest.

You obviously know what's what in Edge Gamers mate, just keep this in mind for your own benefit: When handling eGOs, if you've got problems - just be sure to keep it outside of the server. Sending a PM to your Advisor/House Leader/Division Leader or something of the sort is the right course of action. Even though you may have been wronged in the server, that's not the appropriate place to try and take action. :)

As GGVW said you MUST speak up if you think an ego/eg is out of line. By this I don't mean in public, i mean in a pm to advisors/council/dl's. The highest members of the chain of the command might not see that side of egos that why its the rest of us's job to call it to thier attention if the case appears, otherwise how the heck are they supposed to stop it? They can't keep tabs on everyone, ego isn't thier whole life, we need to be there as a clan for them. When the DL/adivsors/council can't we admin, when the DL/adivsors/council can't we help others, and when someone steps outta line we gotta speak up too.

Like Drunken Sailor said, the powers that be need to know when someone can't handle their power with a good attitude. Sometimes nice guys can come across as jerks in a position of power. If its consistently a problem, let the big boys know.
