I thought it'd be nice if we all got together and described (from your past, not present) the best times from our gaming past, you know what times were your favorite, funny anecdotes, old strategies you used to use, etc.
For me my golden time was when I was first introduced to multiplayer FPS gaming with Quake III. I liked Quake III ok but what I really liked were the mods, Excessive was my favorite until I got sick of all the rocket spam so I set out to make a version of Excessive where you control more like startweapons, ammo, damage, etc. and ended up with a mod I called Epic. I loved the mod, and not just because I wrote it it was fun too. But I blow at promoting things so it never took off. Learned a lot of good lessons from my mistakes though. There is one clan that still to this day plays my Mod though, it's humbling to know that I've brought them so much enjoyment.
My best times in Quake III were playing with my clan at the time, [923]. We used to goof off all the time, and I was really good at defending our flag.
After Q3 died down I moved on to BF1942 and the fun I had there in some ways surpassed the fun I had playing Q3. I drifted for a while, and then joined a community and contributed. My favorite thing to do in game was a kamikaze run as an engineer on a tank. I'd pull out my mines and run at a tank dodging and weaving and if I made it I'd throw the mines down. Of course I'd try to escape but most of the time I didn't make it before the tank ran over the mine and I'd get blown to kingdom come, and then I'd type out KAMI KAMI KAZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
I also loved healing people as a medic and fixing things as an engie, I played mostly Omaha Beach TDM and I always wanted to be Axis, except when I felt like sniping.
We used to have these nights where we'd run different maps and modded maps, it was really fun. One was where we had these stationary planes hanging over Omaha, and you'd spawn up on the planes and then jump down, parachuting at the last second and then fighting.
TF2 has been fun at times too, but I never really found that sense of community that I had in Q3 and BF1942. I like eGo and all, but it's just too big for me, I just feel like a number here. But that's my own fault too I haven't really made a concerted effort to get involved here. Being a new member it is intimidating being in a community this big, with no once central server where everyone goes. Also I like TF2, but it's not the same as my old favorites. I guess I'm just a sucker for nostalgia.
Anyway, anyone else want to tell their story?
