I am sure that everyone got 10+ messages about the STEAM HardDrive Hacker that was posted on the eGO STEAM GROUP. From what I know STEAM does not allow for file sharing, so isn't it impossible for someone to do this? Can someone explain further on how this is possible?

Yea it was a post on the eGO STEAM GROUP about hour ago, I got about 45 message from people.

Ya i saw messages in-game being posted by people.
It sounds like a scare prank. They named somebodys steam account, so I think it's an attack on that person, who's probably completely innocent, and just pissed off somebody who decided to be a jerk.
Just what I think though.

It is an old and popular form of hoax, do not worry about it. You cannot be infected by simply accepting a friend invite, just make sure you don't give any personal information away to them, or enter any information on a link they send you.

There is some more info here, and on Google: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=661920

Probably the scam works by this person sending you a link with a drive-by install via chat once he/she is on your friends list. Of course one shouldn't open links from people that they don't know and never give out information about your account to anybody - but it happens enough for this person to get his jollies.

Pshh. Only add people you play with and this won't happen.

i did not receive any messages about this topic. i have heard about some hacker recently, but i doubt it was about this specific one. good to know. yea guys, dont accept any adds if you dont play with them and definitely do NOT open any links. more than likely would not be a good idea.
