Hey guys, I recently got my hands on a copy of Fallout 3.
I have to say this game is definitely worth buying, if anything I would say you can get more game time out of this than Bioshock. I love how they made this replayable.

As of now I'm playing as a "Gunslinger" who crushes evil. I specialize in repair, small arms, and explosives. I'm really weak on speech skills, hacking skills, and lockpicking skills but there are ways around them.

My stats:
4 Strength
5 Endurance
5 Perception
1 Charisma
8 Intelligence
8 Agility
9 Luck

Never maxed my stats to '10' since you can get bobbleheads that permanently increase your stats. My gun damage and crits are insane, charisma at 1 hasn't affected me as much though. I made that up but boosting points into 'speech'.

My favorite quest was "Power of Atom". I talked to Mr. Burkes and agreed to arm the nuke, than I blasted him and disarmed it instead... giving me my own crib in Megaton... although I would of loved to see the cinematics of megaton being blown up, I think i'll stick to being a good guy for now.

So whats your guys experience?
Just curious as to anyone made a melee character yet?
I have heard people talking about making a "smooth talking Boxer or an intelligent Samurai, and etc"... I'm really curious about all these unorthodox builds... sounds like fun.

I played it and got to a point where I was like "eh.. I just wanna get the game over with". The whole V.A.T.S thing is awesome tho, I think the game would suck without it, oh and the dismemberment of limbs ;)

max out intel foo, for max skill pointssssss, its a great game tho, or atleast i think it is, other Fallout fans would say, OMG THIS SUCKS!!!

Where is the option for yes I have it, but it is so buggy that playing it is not pleasant yet. Im talking about stuttering... Got it the day it came out, really want to play, but the stuttering has practically made it unplayable.

Only 5 perception? Seriously? Those are the weirdest stats I've ever seen.

Oh for the stats I'll eventually get 7 total. +1 from Ant Sight, and +1 from a bobblehead. I figure this will make the character I would like to play the most. Regarding bugs, I haven't had any yet... did you download the latest patch? I'm playing fine.

I don`t like how it`s so identic to Oblivion. Not the enviorment, but the gameplay.

Yea i downloaded the first patch, doesnt really fix anything, hoping the second patch will

I think the game is great. As far as bugs go, the game crashes far more often than other games (though not very often recently). VATS is great, but real time combat is really stiff. Overall, I'm impressed and I still have a ton of stuff to do. Story could have been much better though.

I'm having a lot of fun with this game. I played my first character (~35hrs) as evil, and had quite the time! Now (as I end up doing with most RPG's) I'm shooting for the "ultimate character", and after a lot of research, I put together the following guidelines:

Gameplay Setting:
  • Very Hard (For extra XP, and to balance out your stats end-game)

Gender:
  • Female (Strategic advantage over Male, when using Black Widow perk)

SPECIAL:
  • [04] -> *[05]* Strength
  • [03] -> *[06]* Perception
  • [09] -> *[10]* Endurance
  • [01] -> *[02]* Charisma
  • [09] -> *[10]* Intelligence
  • [09] -> *[10]* Agility
  • [05] -> *[10]* Luck
    *End Game Stat

Tag:
  • Small Guns
  • Repair
  • Sneak

Stats:
  • Bring all stats to [60] -> *[100]*
    *End Game Stat

Perks:
  • 02. Black Widow
  • 03. Intensive Training (Perseption)
  • 04. Educated
  • 05. Comprehension
  • 06. Toughness
  • 07. Intensive Training (Luck)
  • 08. Commando
  • 09. Intensive Training (Luck)
  • 10. Finesse
  • 11. Intensive Training (Luck)
  • 12. Silent Running
  • 13. Life Giver
  • 14. Sniper
  • 15. Cyborg
  • 16. Better Criticals
  • 17. Action Girl
  • 18. Concentrated Fire
  • 19. [Optional] Perhaps Gunslinger / Bloody Mess (If you can stand it).
  • 20. Grim Reaper’s Sprint

Required Items:
  • All 20 Bobble-heads
  • Lucky-8-ball (+1 increase in Luck)
  • ~15 skill books for each stat

Required Quest Perks:
  • Snide Survivor Guru (+6% Poison and Radiation Resistance, +3% Critical Chance)
  • Ant Sight (+1 increase in Perception, +25% resistance to fire)
  • Wired Reflexes (+10% chance to hit in V.A.T.S.)
  • Barkskin (+10 increase to Damage Resistance)
  • Power Armor Training (Allows the use of Power Armor)

Karma Level:
  • Very Good (Bonus to Speech Success %)

I'm sure I ended up missing something, but that's just about the best character you can come up with! Of course this style of play isn't for everyone, but I find it most satisfying in the end! :D

I loved my ending to the game... I blew up the Enclave's base, did not do the FEV virus, saved many people and was the last hope of humanity :D.

On the blowing up Enclave part, you are gonna need ALOT OF SPEECH power to convince the President to kill himself and blow up the Enclave's base, you will be attacked by Enclave while exiting, but the robots will kill them, even if you shoot them once.

hey Ma$termind I actually like your stats,
especially since you got intelligence to 9 first, then got the perk Educated. I think I should of done that to get the most out of how many skills i can get.

Anyway, I think the next char I'm going to make is going to make a fist/melee fighter. I would make a laser shooter, but they don't seem to be that fun, although the tesla armor looks great.

By the end I had tesla armour and energy weps at 100 the highest I could get was around 30 out of a plasma rifle. Go for small guns and get a combat shotgun = awsome. I kinda played around in all different perks and stats just to see the difference. Ill replay it making my intelligence better go for brains over brawn, get into more safes etc. and then exploring and getting all side quests done. Ill then go for all the bobbleheads, then Ill just delve into the main mission. Ill also make alot of different desicions. eg if you blow up the bomb in megaton you get a house in tenpenny tower. I will probably then, before I finish, go around just getting to level 20. Sounds fun!

i would not buy it for xbox360 i got red ring of death from and and read all the rants

also it glitches every 30 minutes or so when it was working and a whole bunch of problems with the vats system

read here http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showforum=35

oh and btw if you did buy it and having problems with it and you got it from walmart they know its having problems destroying the xbox360's and they will gladly take it back like i took mine back and got gears of war 2 but rather than the glitches the game was a very fun game
