Alright this is wicked annoying...

This starting happening a few days ago. Ill go on steam and my friends list connection will keep crapping out, it will connect then disconnect then connect, etc.. When Im playing something like L4D I will be in the middle of a game and it will say "No Steam Logon" and boot me out, then it will reconnect and I can join a game until it happens again.

Ive deleted the Steam.dll, SteamUI.dll, and clelientregistry blob, ran a computer scan and adaware scan, still doesnt work. Relogging the steam account does not work either. My connection to the internet is in no way impaired.

Also EVERYTHING steam related is allowed full access to the internet in every way.

I had a similar problem a while back and updated my firmware so I know thats not the problem, any ideas?

Does this only happen with L4D? In other words, does Steam have problems when you're playing other Valve games (TF2)?

I'm guessing, based on your phrase "games like L4D" that this happens with other games. If true, my guess is you're actually having a problem with either the software firewall on your PC, if present, or more likely - your external hardware router (which has a firewall in it too).

I realize you say you're not having problems with your overall net connection. Not trying to insult you, but how do you know that? Are you measuring that based on ping response or something else?

If you can, I'd try, just for kicks, swapping out your external router. See if that makes a difference. Next, try dropping your software firewall and/or using the Microsoft Firewall when you play a Valve game.

Next, you could always delete Steam and reinstall it (after backing up your games first...).

If none of those steps work, the next ideal thing would be trace and sniff our your Steam connection, but that's somewhat involved. Try the three things listed above first.

What I dont get is, right this minute for example, it is working fine, I havent gotten disconnected for a while and havent had any problems.. :|

So, this is a new thing that's happening and is intermittent? I'm still thinking it's hardware. Are the temps for your PC OK?

And your hardware router. Still be nice to either swap it out or directly connect to your DSL or cable modem for a bit (be sure to have a software firewall up) to see if that makes a difference.

Its been fine since I made that post acutally, not sure what it was, possibly they made an update or I made a slight change that I didnt notice that fixed it up
