Mic volume

Have you checked to ensure your PC has its volume (via settings in whatever OS you're using) turned up?

If you've checked your OS (Vista) settings and the in-game settings - I can't think of anything else. Some mic's have an external volume control - be sure to check if yours turn and to turn it up.

Another thing to try is a different microphone port of your PC, if possible. Other than that, if it's cheap, well... might be time to get a new one.

Make sure it's up in the program your using. Such as vent / or in-game.

When you say boost is on, do you mean the boost in Steam settings, or the one in Vista's audio settings? If you go to your microphone properties in Vista, you should have something like a "20dB Boost" option under the "custom" tab, depending on your sound card.

Hm... if you don't have a custom tab and the boost option isn't in your levels tab either, I'm afraid your hardware doesn't support that option (your sound card/chipset, not your mic).

I wouldn't recommend upgrading your sound card just because that microphone is too quiet - it may be the mic's fault. Also, due to the way Vista handles sound, dedicated sound cards are becoming less and less important in gaming.

Have you tried a different mic with your computer, just for testing purposes? You may just have a defective/low quality headset.
