Whats wrong with it?

Ok, I just got my new RAM today (2x2GB by G skill). And it fit in perfect, I replaced both of the with my new ones, when I turn my computer on, the monitor isn't on... Weird, and when I take of them out, it works, (They aren't DOA I tested them).

Odd is that my Mobo can support up to 4GB...


I tested both of them... One and one, they can't go with each other for some odd reason, I even took the heat spreaders out... I wonder whats wrong.

What motherboard is this? And what voltage & speed are the sticks rated for? You might have to boost the vdimm voltage depending on the mobo and RAM.

It is the M2N MX SE PLUS and it runs 2.0 - 2.1 voltages and is 5-5-5-15.

What did work for me, after I tried booting with both sticks in and it didn't work, was switching the CLRTC (Clear CMOS) jumper position without unplugging the power cord. The motherboard green LED was on, and, as I did this, the system powered up as if I had hit the power button, then I put the jumper back to its normal (default) position. And voil?, "beep" and I was into the BIOS setup after pressing F1.

I checked the setup and the memory was set to "unganged" mode (single channel). Changing it then to Auto ("ganged", dual channel) everything went fine. I then proceeded to install the video card (8600gt) and HDs, etc without a problem. As far as I can tell the trick is to clear the CMOS, but I won't test it thorougly right now because this isn't my machine and I don't have time for that. "

How do I clean the CMOS?

Can you show me all that you just said, I'm not really experienced around these things (never heard of them).

The guy from that forum is talking about using the jumper to clear the CMOS. Consult your manual for a diagram showing the location of that jumper and what pins to use - odds are there will be 2 sets of pins with the jumper currently covering one set. Use a set of pliers (or your fingers if you think you're dextrous enough, but be careful) to move it to the other set of pins. That's what he means by "switching" the jumper's position. To switch back, reverse the process.

I'm not sure why the mobo has to be left plugged in, though. Maybe you should try it with the power disconnected first, and then try his method if that doesn't work. Be very careful when doing this if it's connected to power.

Can you please read and comprehend the post before you make fun of someone? It works fine with ONE but not BOTH. Also, it worked with the old RAM. So, obviously the problem is a little deeper than an unplugged monitor.

FIXED!

I did this...

run bios setup utility/advanced/Memory Configuration/North bridge/bank interleaving / SET (AUTO) /exit & save changes.

Played around in BIOS.

if you do need to clear cmos their is a 3pin jumper on your motherboard, the manual will tell you where. You will need to go from pins 1-2 to 2-3 to reset. Some motherboards have differant ways of doing it, but generally the same idea. If non of that works, you said you tested the new ram to see if they were doa, how did you check. Also have you tried changing the new ram to the primary channels, and your older ones in the 3-4 slots.
