Help My Dell

Ok, I have a 2005 Dell XPS computer desktop and i have like a GForce6800 video card (or something like this, its old...) and i have a sound problem with mic's and my computer.

First, What would be a good card to upgrade to that would be compatible with my computer?

Secondly, what should i do with my mic volume problem? (all volume settings are on max and boosted) should i get a new sound card? (I've bought several mics, some cheap and some expensive and they all sound really quiet in-game and on vent).

Also, when upgrading my graphics card, will i be required to upgrade my power supply or anything like that? Thanks for all the help guys!

Do you know if you have an AGP or PCI-x slot for your video?
 
anything within the 8800 series for GeForce is great. Good value (now) and still pretty powerful. It all depends on what kind of budget you are on, really.
As for the mic issue. Your jack could be busted. Simple as that. That happened to my Dell laptop. An easy fix would be to just grab a sound card. Again, it comes down to budget. But seeing as it its a 2005 computer, I wouldn't spend TOO much money on it. Creative has some decent cards for around 40 bucks that will do the trick.

If the sound is onboard, they tend to be very bugy even on well known manufactured motherboards. Same thing happend with mine, i just got a usb device with mic/sound for headphones. Their are some headsets that come with the usb device and same price as regular headsets. Or you can get a new sound card, and unless you buy one from 15years ago they will all generally be pci and compatible with just about any system. Oh ya get a new video card :)
