Those two 250GB's in Raid0 have about 60MB/s max xfer rate.

I am getting two Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB for my new system. I am planning to have them as two single hard drives, one for OS and main installation files, the other for page file and other stuff.
The WD6401AALS has an avg transfer rate of 95MB/s, which beats the old WD Raptor 10k hard drive.

'transfered like a harddrive'? no, thanks. Those ST3250620NS, while they still work great, are obsolete technology.

I hear some games is like 125MB transfer required just to play it perfect w/o stutter :P. I liked to see that one beat the raptors.

You are upgrading from a P4??? hehe I did that last year and went with a Quad. The difference is AMAZING.

My Core i7 system build - Update!

Update!

Yesterday I recieved all of my computer components; the case will arrive tomorrow. Since I was impatient to see if it actually worked I built it without the case. The HAF 932 replacement case is scheduled to come in tomorrow.

I currently have the mobo sitting on my desk on the two cardboard inserts that my UPS shipped in. The assembly went flawlessly, and Windows Vista installed in about 20 minutes. I have the two 640's as single drives, with my OS and main install files on the first one and my page file on the second one.

First and only benchmark so far - I ran the island benchmark of Crysis patch 1.21, 64bit, DirectX10, max settings. 33FPS average.
Considering that Toms hardware benchmarked Crysis with a QX9650 and GTX 280 at an avg of 29FPS, I'm very happy.

I am buying 3dmark vantage, and will have some new benchmarks up hopefully in a couple days.

If you're getting the new 1366 board soon, you're probably a gamer. A hardcore one at that.

If you're a hardcore gamer, you're likely to overclock it.
If you're likely to overclock it, you're likely to get watercooling.
Thus, lack of fans isn't much of a problem :P

#1, I already have all the components, and it is completely assembled. If you had read my replies to this thread, you would know that.

'lack of fans ' - #2, I have plenty of fans. The CPU cooler that I am getting is better than a lot of water cooling solutions. And, the HAF 932 case has enourmous airflow.

And, this is a screenshot of Task Manager's performance tab, update speed set to slow. It shows how much cpu and memory Crysis 64bit was using at 1280x1024, ultra-high graphics, village level.

yeah if i decide to go with a Core i7, i will be stepping up from a P4 too... but that will be a long time... so maybe ill just go with the cheaper setup, just to kinda make it to whats almost today's computers are at
 
The really impressive thing about that core i7 920 is I have not seen a single game max out even one of the 8 cores.

It also actually dynamically underclocks itself depending on system load, down to 1.66Ghz.

And, that Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme 1366 RT is one of the most impressive cpu coolers in existence. Last night my cpu was idling at 75 F, and the highest that I have ever seen it go to is about 86 F.

Ahhh, if only I had that much money to get a PC like that... although I am quite happy with my Core 2 Quad.

yeah, i really like those specs on it. the temps and the RAM and the CPU and such and so-forth. lol
 
Hrm...I'm trying to get the ASUS Rampage II Formula...the features are AWESOME. Quite pricey though. Almost as much as a Skulltrail. @_@

Ofcourse not, no games makes fully use of the 8 cores, Try cinebench. THAT will make use of 8 cores ;)
