If you have'nt already bought GTA 4 on PC be aware theres a large ammount of people having FPS issues with the game ie, max fps 20.

The Highest end video card could run it on low settings max rez and only gets max 23 fps, highest settings only gets max 17 fps.

I myself have experinced this as well my max fps is 17, I got it as a gift from my cousin.

If you buy the game don't expect it to work flawlessly for you as the number of people are increaseing daily, Rockstar is working on a patch as I type this but it'll be awhile, hopfully if your lucky you will be one of the few that has no problems with the fps, or you could just wait untill they announce the patch then buy it.

Just FYI.

I was thinking about getting this game for PC, until....

Have you seen the system requirements for this game?

http://www.rockstargames.com/IV/#?page=pc

Minimum System Requirements:
Core 2 Duo Processor
Nvidia 7900 / ATI x1900
1.5GB Ram

Recommended System Resources:
Intel Core 2 QUAD Processor
RAM: 2.5GB
Nvidia 8600 / ATI 3870

I read somewhere that GTAIV uses an insane amount of textures, so it's a system resource hog; however, it's supposed to look better on the PC because of the added textures...

It's quite a treat reading the steam forum section for GTA IV. There is no reason why a AMD dual core above 2.5G "should" have trouble running this game decently. Especially if the person's GPU is an 8 series or better [nvidia].

Yeah, I have the game, and I get about 23-24 FPS... I thought it was my rig, until I found out online that everyone is having the same issue.

I'm sure there will be a patch forthcoming... Although, I'm still waiting for a decent patch to fix the ugliness that is Mercenaries 2 (I know this will never happen...).

Well in this case Rockstar will have to fix the problem, quote from a Rockstar offical "the higher settings are provided for future generations of PCs with higher specifications than are currently widely available"

They figured everyone would have a "top end" computer but were not rich so ya no I got a AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 2.4 GHz and 3 gigs of ram (4 gigs if your counting the 1 gig 32bit OS's don't show but still being used) and a 9600 GT Video Card Overclocked. The graphics in this game are not high quality like Far Cry 2 or Crysis hell I still see bad rending in this game everywere, and plus if you turn everything to the lowest possible the game looks like someone took a slug hammer to it and throw it in the grinder and left it there and I only get 23 FPS wth! PS1 games looks better then GTA 4 on low settings.

In this case they will have to patch this game and FAST because alot of people are demanding refunds and bad reviews from the people have stoped alot of people from buying the game for pc. If they don't fix the FPS isssue soon it will be R.I.P. for Rockstar after that if they don't fix it Rockstar will become the first "B-Rated Game" with wicked graphics lol

NVIDIA recommends that you update your system with the following GeForce v180.84 driver for the best experience on Grand Theft Auto IV:

I'll give that a shot when I go home tonight. Will report back what my experience is.

Oh, and "e MpTy", we have relatively similar systems, yours being better with some extra RAM and I have a 8800GT. So, I'm not planning on it helping much! :(

Also, I agree the graphics are far from stunning... :\

It works flawless here ( I didn`t expect that )
This game is probally quite CPU heavy. I got a Q8200 and the game runs smooth on medium.

As I stated in my first post, only few have a flawless version of GTA 4 for PC.
Quite a few people have ABOVE recommended pc requirments and still experince this fps issue.

Congrats on being one of the lucky ones :)

I'm running a q6600@3Ghz, 4GB RAM, Vista 64bit and 2x 8800GT's in SLI (but GTA4 doesn't support SLI yet--so basically a single 8800GT). The game runs great, but I cannot get anywhere near max settings (cannot run in 1920x1200 w/o everything pretty low), but the game still looks great -- better than console imo with the recommended settings.

Warning: This game is addicting!! I've logged over 72 hours in less than a week!

Another warning: You need a GfWL account, they're a waste of hard drive space. (Yes, even on steam).

So far my experience has been excellent.

Specs:

AMD X2 5200+
8800 GTX 768 MB DDR3
ASUS mobo [generic]
3G generic mem

I run it at 1400 x900 all at medium with 30/30 view/detail 0 shadow thing

and I get at least 20 fps

Hopefully I'll get more when the next patch comes out. This game ios tons of fun.
