Do I need a cpu cooler?

I'm building my first computer and I am going to get this CPU.

I am not planning on ever overclocking my CPU, so I was wondering if a cooler like this http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835207004 is even needed in my computer.

Nah. The stock fans work just fine with the stock clock rates. Try using the one they give you first. If after a month or so (just so the paste can sink in) you see temps are running higher than you'd like, then try for an after market cooler. But more than likely what they give you will be fine if you don't plan to overclock.

/agree intel retail fans are pretty efficient. Unless you have other hardware that produces alot of heat it would be a waste of money.

I'd agree stock/retail fans are just fine for cooling purposes. But stock/retail fans usually suck in terms of noise. If you have the spare change, I'd suggest looking at other fans just because they're quieter.

Depending on which CPU you're getting and the overall air flow through your case, you might even be able to go with a fanless CPU cooler. I admit though, that's the exception.

I tossed the retail CPU fan that came with my PC, and I installed a nice quiet Thermaltake. More efficient and a lot quieter.

Of course, if you have seven 120 mm case fans going, your choice of CPU fan might not make a difference.
