Look at the exclusives each console has and decide by the games you like more.
Personally, I bought the 360 because the PS3 was (and still is) pretty expensive and I simply liked the games more.

yes it is a expensive but it has a Blu Ray Dvd Player that is why it more expensive and the graphics are about equal i think some games are better so yea it is either if you dont have 1080P you wont be able to use Blu Ray to the max abailty it has to show image and movie quailty so if you dont have 1080P i would get a 360 but be warned a LIL KIDS screaming in the MIC constantly yea you can mute them and stuff but there will be a horde of them !

actully the 360 elite has blu ray so it really depends on the games u like
Its all up to whichever games you like more, if you dont know and are too lazy to look up what games there are choose the xbox360, it is cheaper and has a much larger game library than the ps3. I have both since both have games I really like to play. Neither is really better than the other though.
Qouted for the truth, I ended up getting xbox 360 since I was able to get it cheaper and because most of my friends had it (xbox live).

Xbox live is like the ONLY reason I got a 360. Not many of my actual friends play on the PC, so I got a 360 to play with them.

I personally have never liked the xbox systems, but as everyone else has said, choose the system that most of your friends have and the one that has the exclusives that you like better.
If watching Blu Ray discs on a high def set is important to you, then get the ps3, it is still the best blu ray player out there (not the cheapest anymore though).
(warning here comes my hate of all things xbox). If you like Red Rings of Death and want to have to replace your brand new console after a month, get the xbox. Also, im pretty sure none of the xboxs have blu ray as someone had mentioned earlier.

360 Elite has HD-DVD, not blu-ray

And think about the games, which do you like better? Both systems specialize in different types of games (For example, if you really like RPGs, XBox probably isn't for you).
I personally like and have the 360 because it's cheaper and has a wider variety of games, but to each his own. Each system has their ups and downs.

Free online play on ps3 is what one it for me.

It has neither. The sole differences between an Elite and a Premium are the amount of space on the hard drive and the inclusion of an HDMI cable.

You are sort of correct
About a year ago they pulled the HD DVD player out of the elite and made it an accessory. So they old elites (like the one I have) have HD DVD the new ones don't.

And if I remember correctly they added the HDMI cable to the 360 Premium now, too.
